Spring Exchange!

edited September 2010 in General
Hi all!

I'm a hopeful spring term exchange student (awaiting confirmation from SFU) from Singapore (:

Hope to get to know more about SFU through trawling through these pages, and perhaps you guys can help me out here and there.

I'm probably gonna stay off-campus, since I overlooked the residence deadline, but judging from what I've read about rez, it can't compare with the awesome experience in the hall I live in right now. So yupp.

I've nothing much to add really. Just looking forward to a good time (:

Anyway, I noticed there's a pretty big Asian population, so I guess I'm just adding to that whether you like it or not! I'm a Filipino-Chinese, and love sports, like netball, soccer, touch rugby etc.

Alrights have a great day y'all!

Gosh winter, I've never experienced one, which is actually why I picked Canada. Can't escape winter there!

you picked the wrong part of Canada to experience a 'true' winter

    LOL I disagree.

It'll only take a few minutes of direct exposure before he starts hating it. And that's about as much snow Vancouver gets anyway - a few minutes of snow.

    Teehee. I'm a 'she'.

Anyways, yeah, I'm actually a little worried about adapting to the weather, so I'm part thankful that I'm not gonna be in Montreal or anything. Mild is good.

Vancouver barely has a winter. It rains more than it snows here and the coldest it gets is maybe -8 if that? You can get by wearing runners.

I've been to Germany and Poland last winter where it was on average -20 and my exchange friends kept insisting I must be used to the cold since I'm from Canada. Boots were a necessity if you want to keep your toes.

Don't bring anything. Just pack light and buy your winter clothes here. We probably have everything here you could get at home.

    FUCK YA!

    SNOW!!!!!

    4WD!!!!!!

    btw welcome
  • So my trip's confirmed! Anyway yeah I read about the La Nina winter over the West of Canada this year...getting nervous about that. But I'm gonna take all your advice and buy everything I need when I get there. I'm assuming jackets and all will be cheaper over there as well, since wintry conditions aren't a novelty like they are back in Singapore. We're having a mad hot spell with haze from our Indonesian neighbours' forest fires and it's awful. Can't wait to get out!

It won't be that bad lol... I don't think it snowed at all last winter so anytime it does it's big news.

I'd recommend looking into the condos at Univercity.. it's kind of pricey compared to rez but it's a best of both worlds situation because you get to stay on campus in your own private residence. It's a big convenience because you won't have to bus it up the mountain for class everyday.

And lastly, congratulations on getting in! You'll love it here :)
