grad application

edited September 2010 in General
Ok, so I have several questions I hope those who have gone through the same situation can answer. I'm a comp sci student. I've completed all the courses required for my program as well as the courses required to make up 120 credits. I'm just waiting for my graduation application to get approved but it seems to be taking forever.

First of all, does anyone know if you can graduate even if you didn't pass one course? I didn't pass japn 100 but I did take a pol sci course to make up for the credits I was supposed to get from japanese. I didn't wanna retake japanese cuz I had no interest in it whatsoever after that semester. So in short, I got the credits (from taking pol sci instead), but japn is still on my transcript. And this is where my second question comes in...has anyone ever been declined in their application for graduation (particularly about having not passed a course)? I've asked my advisor about this and she said it's ok as long as you take another course to make up for the credits (which I did)...but then again, she made a number of mistakes on my grad check and I had to correct her.

Appreciate any help you guys can give as this is certainly nerve-wracking.

All you can do is wait till it comes out in the wash. You'll get a letter from the Senate committee that approves graduation applications probably in a month.\

Have you checked not with a Registrar's-Office-Academic-Advisor but the CompSci course-planning-advisor? He or she would know in more detail what majors in that faculty need to graduate.

Actually, the lady who did my grad check was an actual comp sci advisor. To be on the safe side, I went to get it re-done by another advisor, but she didn't get back to me as she said she would. In any case, from what I read on the SFU website, your grad application status will change to "Approved" before changing to "Awarded". Any idea how long it takes for the faculty to approve your application? Convocation is next month so I'm hoping it will be much sooner than that.
