Does it say how much they're charging anywhere? I can't find it.

I agree that the $5 or whatever amount they will end up charging is a just another excuse to screw us over, but just to put this into perspective, SFU is the only major school that still doesn't charge for transcripts.

Apparently, SFU admin had wanted to charge for transcripts all along, but SIS wasn't designed to allow them to do that, so they had to continue allowing students to do it for free. But I guess they've finally fixed the bug so that they can start charging now. In other words, they were never offering it for free to be nice or to give us a break, they always had the intention to screw us over like all the other schools, but they couldn't screw us because of their own incompetence... until now.

Yeah, I don't find it to be a surprise at all. I had to pay for my transcripts from Langara while applying for SFU.

    Langara.

I think it makes sense that they're charging for transcripts because there's the possibility that some desperate people will abuse the system and order 500 transcripts mailing to Harvard University.

And 5 bucks is not a lot of money, most of us don't use that service often anyways.

Agreed. SFU is one of the few school's I know of that don't charge currently.

it is AT LEAST $10 per order plus tax

I guess 10 bucks really is a lot of money for some people. I mean, I'm no where close to being rich, but I'm glad I can still afford it.

$10 is not much money. But it adds up if you are applying to grad schools or for jobs.

Imagine applying to 6-7 med schools. That's a minimum $70 extra. And its NOT guaranteed to arrive. SFU is likely not going to be responsible if it is "lost" in the mail or never "received" by the other side. So the only way to guarantee is to do an expedited delivery, which obviously will add almost double to the cost.

    It adds up...

Well this might add up depending on how many grad schools and scholarships I decide to apply for...

Well, unless some miracles happen, I think the fee is here to stay.

But you can dispute the cost. Personally, I think it should be somewhere between 6 to 8 bucks, 10 is a little too much, unless they hand-write it with left hands.

Since UBC is charging $7 and Langara is charging $5 a piece, here's my breakdown for what I think would do justice to our student body:

    1) there's no doubt that we're better than Langara and since it's charging $5, we should charge $6, just to show that we're superior.

    2) for those people who believe we're as good as UBC, we should push for $7 a piece.

    3) for those who believe we're superior than UBC, $8 a piece will spice up our egos.

But beyond that, the cost is totally unacceptable and we should organize and stage a massive demonstration in the library so no one can study quietly and must join our cause.

    What do you say?
