JAPN 100
Since Asian reincarnated as version 3.0, I decided to post my question here.
Has anyone taken JAPN 100 before, either through DE or in-class? If so, how was it? If you had zero knowledge of the language or any of the Asian languages, how was it adapting to the completely different style of writing?
I was going to take it DE in the summer, but I don't know if it is better to take it in-class since I don't really have any knowledge of the language, but wish to take it still out of self-interest.

Trust me, you don't want to spend hundreds of dollars learning at the same pace with others. If you have zero background in Japanese, you probably will find it more challenging than your other classmates. Japn 100 is one of those popular gpa boosters for people that already have some background.
Having said that, I still think it may be an interesting challenge, but you have to know how much time you are willing to invest.
Also, http://www.lingq.com/
They have a helpful online community and the guy (Steve Kauffman) is a former Canadian diplomat, speaking 11 languages...
I think I'm going to take SPAN 102 DE in the summer for sure though, since I've heard it isn't too hard and I only want to take 3 on-campus classes (will probably do MATH 157, BUEC 232, CMPT 165).
just curious, what's the name of that japanese school you mentioned?
and you'll be tackling 2 languages at the same time?
And the school is Vancouver Japanese Language School
