I swear to Christ, the record companies/radio stations are using a form of shock doctrine with this song. Over the past week I've heard it like over 9000 times enough that it starts playing in my head at random times.
My (incredibly bad) CMPT 470 project corroborates your story.
Over the time period it was tracking - probably the last week or month - it picked up these stats:
Station: The Beat
1 Whatcha Say by Jason Derulo was played 67 times. 2 Empire State of Mind by Jay-Z + Alicia Keys was played 66 times. 3 Bad Romance by Lady GaGa was played 64 times. 4 Sexy Chick by David Guetta was played 59 times. 5 Down by Jay Sean was played 57 times. 6 3 by Britney Spears was played 57 times. 7 TiK ToK by Ke$ha was played 55 times. 8 Meet Me Halfway by Black Eyed Peas was played 44 times. 9 Fireflies by Owl City was played 39 times. 10 Body Body by Massari was played 39 times.
...these 10 songs make up 21.94% of all airplay.
So basically, if you turned on your radio to The Beat in the last week/month/whatever. You had about a 1 in 5 chance of hearing one of those songs.
we had a rental car in las vegas, it came with sirius radio... I turned to some pop station and each time I was in the car, I would hear bad romance at least once! No matter how long the commute was, I would hear it.
