Respectable GPA for Business Administration?

I'm second year business and wondering what a "respectable" GPA would be for the faculty? By respectable, I mean one that looks good on a resume and is competitive for SFU's MBA program. Also, based on SFU's academic "standing", what GPA, combined with a good GMAT score, would be needed to be at least considered into an Ivy League school?

I know my questions have all the hallmarks of a naive kid, so please don't abuse me too badly with your answers lol.

    3.5 CGPA for Business due to the nature of Business courses. Everyone in Business gets 90% average so every Business course is curved. Those in the 90 get a C+ and those in the 98 get an A+. Very competitive and one of the worst faculties at SFU. All Business students are hyenas and they'll tear your throat out (and each other) the first chance they get. There's a lot of backstabbing and betrayals going on inside the faculties.

    Very hard to stay in. Unlike the other programs were you need a minimum of 2.00 CGPA to stay in, the Business faculty requires a 3.00 CGPA to stay in.

    BTW, an Ivy League school wouldn't take in someone from SFU anyways. If you were at Toronto U or maybe UBC even, then you might get a chance but still slim nonetheless. Ivy League schools only admit students from schools that have at MINIMUM $1 BILLION annual endowment.

    Curving in the sciences rewards the lazy, not the cuttthroat. ;)

    The average in sciences can be anywhere from 30 to 70 percent prior to curving, so if you put forth any kind of effort at all you can walk out of your courses with C+'s and B-'s. :teeth:

    Luckily I have been among the A+ group so far during my two years in the Business faculty. My biggest concern was whether I was wasting my youth trying to get a CPGA good enough to get into an Ivy League school. Now that you said that I am probably not going to be even considered, it is quite distressing, even if this information is only coming from one person.

    Maybe you should write to the schools you want to and get the info from the horse's mouth instead of a horse's ass.

    This is a load of crap. I'm in 4th year Business right now and you should be above 3.0 to have a respectable GPA. That is the minimum for SFU's MBA program. And no everyone does not get 90% in every class, I got 67% in BUS 207 and got a A-. For an Ivy League school, your going to need near a 4.0 or an off the charts GMAT score. Hope that clears it up for you.
