asian-students-that-attend-sfu. these forums are 90 percent asian (mostly chinese), seriously, it's like a peer-support group or something. you would think this was talkUBC. just saying...

    Anyway I think you're being a little OTT here; AFAIK the posters here tend to be SFU students and the board is explicitly SFU-centric.

    The only reason there might be a lot of asians on this board is because there ARE a lot of asians AT sfu. The whole board might as well be asian for all I care, it doesn't make a difference. The only thing that does annoy me is that, in real life, at SFU, there are dozens and dozens of Ethnic-centered student societies: the Japanese student society, the Chinese student society, the Korean student society. It's lame.

    ^I don't think that counts. Caucasian isn't really an ethnicity. It's not like its "The Asian society".
    Maybe a Scottish Club, or British Club, or Italian Club... would make more sense.

    There's the European Social Club or whatever, but I think that club is more about getting drunk than embracing your roots in other ways.

    Then start your own Caucasian club, but mask it with something subtle and something "non-racist". There's a "great mustache club" at SFU, but Asian people can't grow facial hair, let alone an epic mustache/beard. So, now you only have Caucasian people in your club. See, clever. Very subtle, and clever.

    So what? It wouldn't be funny if she delivered it like a grammar nazi. What's the difference anyway? "Asian" is not an ethnicity either, but we have CAC, in addition to the ethnic clubs we already have.

    Either way I'm sure you understood what she was saying. White people all look the same to asian fobs the same way asians look alike to some white guys.

    She was comparing a "chinese" club to a "caucasian" club.
    I wouldn't say they are comparisons.

    Just saying, you can't group all white people together and call them one ethnicity.
    Because... they're not.

    And... white people don't look all the same to me, so I don't see where you're getting this from.

    Key word there is "to me." Not everyone shares the same point of views as you do. I have met asians, particularly fobs from earlier generations, mention that white people look almost similar to them the same way that asians look similar to some white guys - which is why there's a joke about how most asians look like jackie chan. Anyway, I'm surprised you're not aware of this. Even I can't tell a Chinese, Korean, Japanese from an asian crowd.

    Yes I know they're not one ethnicity and noone here was implying otherwise. But it doesn't mean it wouldn't make any sense if I say for example that I want to start a Caucasian club, just because by definition "caucasian" is actually a group of ethinicities.

    Since they were listing out ethnicities, like I said, it's not a valid comparison to bring up caucasian, treating it as an ethnicity.
