well im not too fond about translinks proposed plans to get out of the 500million dollar whole: increase parking rates, increase fare, increase property tax, vehicle levy.
i just find it hilarious that the canada line... which was constructed in lieu of the olympics doesn't have a station anywhere near the olympic oval.. it's LOL-worthy..

People would like the canada line more if they weren't ex-ing the buses.
^ that's a very misinformed view of what's really happening.
The buses (7 routes) that are discontinued go from richmond to downtown or to the airport. I'm pretty sure there's something new that takes people to exactly those places is LESS TIME.
Besides, bus frequencies for 8 bus routes are being increased within richmond, which all connect to at least one of the Canada Line stations.

And if you read that you'd see they are ax'ing busses. I'm surprised they're going to be taking the b-line off, I could see reducing service but not completely taking it off. Basically the canada-line is just going to be as packed as the B-Line now, if not more, since they're getting everyone from Delta and White rock to transfer in Richmond.
They make NO mention of increasing any bus service in the downtown core to south vancouver either, they just mention that people going towards downtown can take certain busses.
And if you read that you'd see they are ax'ing busses.
^ And if you read my post, I didn't say they're weren't axing buses. I even acknowledged the fact. Talk about a hypocritical comment to make.
Skytrain service beats bus service hands down. The Canada Line is running at the same frequency (every 6 minutes) taking 25 minutes one way... the B-line's double that.
I understand the need for people to bitch about everything (good, bad, and everything in between), but honestly I've taken the B-line to richmond so many times and the Canada Line is an insanely better alternative. Quieter. Comfortable. Air conditioned (if you've taken the B-line this summer, u know what i'm talking about). And most of all it's FASTER.

I fail to see how my comment is hypocritical, I was more referring to the fact you said she has a very misinformed view, when in fact part of what she said is quite true.
Which is where I lead in, to show they aren't necesarily increasing service in all areas which service is being ax'd.
I also know how 'pleasant' it is to ride a b-line in 30 degree heat where it feels like 50 degrees in the bus. Whether or not you think the Canada line is an insanely better alternative is the point
For example:
I was in POQO the other night, and I decided to take the 160 to downtown, rather than a quick bus to the skytrain, then skytrain downtown. It ended up being on par for me to stay on the direct bus downtown, since I didn't need to connect to anything.
So people in white rock and delta who used to have alternatives to just go direct downtown, are now being diverted to the Canada line via richmond--increasing their travel time and connections.
I think the Canada line is great for anyone who lives in richmond for sure, but they have altered or ax'd busses I think would be useful for other travellers.
I fail to see how my comment is hypocritical, I was more referring to the fact you said she has a very misinformed view, when in fact part of what she said is quite true.
My point exactly. Is it not misinformed if what you know is only part of the truth?

Don't you need to show evidence to support your claim? Check out the Richmond/Delta map.
# 401, 402, 403, 404, 405, 410, 430, 480 buses will run more frequently and provide increased connections to Canada Line. ^these are within the boundary of Richmond, NOT Delta.
# 98 B-Line, 488, 490, 491, 492, 496 routes will be discontinued. ^these are ALSO within the boundary of Richmond, NOT Delta.
There you go. Don't make shit up if you haven't looked into it.
Honestly, you can't believe every street will be serviced with a bus route...if you're gonna put in a huge line that displaces bus routes...you win some...and then you lose some. So what? People who used to have a bus stop in front of their house now have to walk a block or two to get to a bus? Everyone has to do that. It's called public transit.

First of all, you're using an example from PoCo??? We're talking Canada Line and Richmond here...give me a break...that's backing anything up. From where I live in Burnaby, it takes me 4 minutes to skytrain to Metrotown and 20 minutes to skytrain downtown. If I took the 19 that directly goes to both places, it would take 8 minutes to Metro and 45 minutes downtown. This example doesn't support my argument for the Canada Line anymore than your PoCo example supports "people in white rock and delta have increased travel times and connections".
Besides, you said sitting on the 160 was ON PAR with transferring and taking the skytrain. How can you use this example to say people in Delta and White Rock will be faced with increased travel times?
Being able bullshit on term papers is one thing (which I'm sure you're good at), but you need real evidence to back your shit up.

I can easily use the example, follow my logic here, I'll make it more obvious:
My example of the 160 demonstrates that having a skytrain line doesn't mean you need to cut busses-- busses aren't inferior to skytrains.
And I can easily use the examples of white rock and delta, I take the 351, and having it re-route to Richmond instead of just directly downtown will increase travel time.

Okay...it obviously doesn't make sense because I provided an example that, according to your logic, "proves" the opposite. The 160 doesnt run along the skytrain and there isn't an alternative to it....how is it an example to use?????? The routes around the Canada line were displaced by this line and increased frequency of nearby routes. What part of this dont you understand???

You read that and follow your "logic"..............there are many cases which prove both sides.....

You need to READ. The bus route 351 is NOT discontinued....how the fuck is that a good example to use?
You lack facts to back up your empty statements, but I'm sure you know this.

It appears you are the one who needs to read. Randomuser never said that the 351 was discontinued, she merely stated that it is being RE-ROUTED to Richmond thus making her trip to be a bit longer and having to transfer as opposed to (and I am assuming since I don't take public transit) directly to downtown and having the luxury to sleep the whole way.
In comparison to Toronto and Ottawa, our transit system is godly.
I was in both TO and OTTAWA for a while, man that shit sucked.
HA HA HA HA HA HA HO HO HO HO HO HEEEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEEEEEEE.
Oh, I'm sorry, you were serious?
When it can take ~30 minutes to get from SFU to UBC by car and over an hour and a half by transit, something's wrong.
When BC Transit got the 1996 System of the Year award the collective air of disbelief among Vancouverites was palpable. You could get the definite vibe that people wondered what deluded assholes gave that award to a system that creates artful works of fiction that masquerade as transit schedules, and regularly runs busses that overcrowd to the point where at some stops I've seen throngs of people that throw up their hands at yet another bus zooming by their stop.
We don't even have a true 24-hour transit system in this city, and you'd think there would be. It's a joke when the bars close at 2 AM and the Skytrain quits running before then.

1) My example of the 160 was demonstrating that busses aren't inferior to the canada line, and that ax'ing busses because the canada line is built isn't a great idea. Obviously the 160 doesn't run along the Canda line, thank you for pointing that out I totally forgot! I was comparing the travel time of the 160 to the millenium line, sorry I could not spell that out for you more obvious, next time I'll take that into account. Or do you think the skytrain and canada line are not similar? 1 a) Now I know you're going to say well the 160 isn't along a skytrain route, which is correct, but translink is re-routing other bus routes, such as the 351 which are not along the Canada line, to the Canada line, increasing travel times.
2) As mentioned above by bryan, I never claimed that the 351 was being discontinued, maybe you should learn to read, because on several occasions my example was referring to it being re-routed.
3) Personal attacks are demonstrative of lack of proper reasoning or logic  Saying I can bullshit like I do in essays, and that I know I am making empty statements don't do much to further your logic

Another reason why our transit system is better for students.
We aren't having the Olympics now?
