goin hikin tmr

edited August 2009 in General
i'm heading out hiking tommorow and was wondering if anyone wanted to tag along.

the weather tommorow is projected at 22 degrees in the morning going up to 29 in the afternoon so its gonna be a scorcher.

the trail is located at the lynn headwaters in north vancouver. i'll be waiting at the hiker registration board untill 9am at which point the hike will begin.

the trail starts by following the lynn loop trail and connecting up to the cedars mill trail. from there we'll progress along o the headwaters trails all the way up to norvan falls. the hike is linear and has a relatively low elevation gain (think of it more as a nice walk). the trail length is approximately 13-14km. we'll hike along the trail and stop at key spots to take pics and snack. and we'll have lunch up at the falls, possibly go for a dip in the water which is freakin cold if the weather turns out to get insanely hot. the best thing is that the trail runs along lynn creek which has alot of nice rocks to sit around on and soak your feet.

what you'll need to bring:

water (recommend atleast a 1L bottle)
decent shoes
lunch and snacks

the rest is optional but i suggest:

sunscreen if you burn easy
sunglasses
a small towel if you plan on getting wet
a camera if you want pictures
a change of socks

i'll be carrying the other items such as a first aid kit and stuff like that so there isnt any need for you to bring them unless you wanna.

hope people are down. you can pm me for additional information or contact info.

the lynn canyon headwaters area is located at the end of lynn valley road. you take the lynn valley road exit along highway one and just follow lynn valley road all the way till you hit the park.

heres info from the gvrd website:
"The parking lot at the end of Lynn Valley Road provides access to all trails in this park. From Highway 1, take the Lynn Valley Road exit in North Vancouver and follow north to the park entrance. First-time visitors are reminded that this is a wilderness site; all visitors should bring a daypack with basic supplies and notify someone where they are going and when they expect to return."

uh... i think it'll take a few hours atleast. depending on how many stops we make to screw around. i figured atleast 30 min for lunch.

so... should take us around 4 hours is what i was thinking. start at 9am add 4 hours so we should be done by 1pm? 2pm at the latest?

dont wanna do something too technical and dont wanna do a cake walk.

I sure would like to, but I can't. Here is a suggestion though from what I found out about hiking. I carry one of those sand vests that the firefighters use to train with. It weighs 60 lbs (50 right now I took some weight off) but I can walk about 9 miles some days with that 50 lbs and it is effortless. The caloric burn for 50 lbs of weight is a whopping 900 calories per HOUR. That's insane but true, and it WORKS. I am 165 lbs at 5 foot 7. Couldn't be happier with my exercise regimen.
