This ever happened to one of you?

The course outline for POL 100 this fall says we need 'Studying Politics, Second Edition'. So I found someone on Craigslist selling a copy for $50... so I bought it today... then looking closer on mySFU, the ISBN references the Third Edition of the textbook. I emailed the prof. and he said we will be using the third edition. I feel like such a fool.

Since this textbook is an older edition, would I be able to sell it back to the bookstore? I guess it's only $50, but still, I'm kind of annoyed about the whole thing.

Just use that edition! I do this all the time. Buying the previous edition is a great way to save money on textbooks. Usually the content has been changed so little that it will work just as well. If you want to make sure, go to the bookstore and look at the table of contents for the third edition and compare it to the second. It's probably almost exactly the same.

The only place where you might run into trouble is if the prof assigns a lot of questions from the text which have changed from one edition to another. You could ask him if he'll do that.

And no, you won't be able to sell it back to the bookstore. Once the new edition is in use, they have no reason to take the old ones.

did you ask the prof if you can use the older version? cause some are okay with that.. and in fact suggest it so you could save a few bucks..
