Aww, thats so cute, I'm sure you both will choose the perfect rings. =) As for where's a good place to buy them... personally I like Tiffanys. =) they have great rings, and they're all unique. Well best of luck^^

I don't think a promise ring has to cost a specific amount of money...its more about the "promise" of always being together that comes with it. Try a jeweleery store at the mall, i got a nice one with a little heart shape in it for 120$ last year...speaking of which she gave it back a few months ago so if you wanna buy it let me know :P

I used the search button instead of starting a new thread...and dug up an old one!

What do you think of promise rings? They're talking about it on the Kid Carson Show this morning as I'm writing a paper...

IMO, it's a cheap version of an engagement ring. A way to tie a girl up so to speak without actually committing the whole way. I should be pretty angry if my boyfriend pulled out a promise ring.

I think the idea is cute.

And I always figured promise rings could be any type of ring--even the type you get out of a cereal box.

I wish I could get a promise ring out of a cereal box.

My wife and I bought eachother gold bands after dating for a year. A nice touch would be adding engravings of the date you met. My wife ended up using hers as her wedding ring. I opted for white gold and diamonds, lol.

    I have one. I like it =D

I was suckered into buying these rings for us lol

We've been dating for more than 3 years and I didn't know she had this expectation from me to get them....

If you're looking for relatively inexpensive rings...try asian retailers, they usually have a large selection of matching couple rings. Metrotown, Crystall, Aberdeen, Parker Place..those places?

I guess it depends on the couple. I think it's cute if you're like, 15-20(ish). Granted I'm in that age bracket, yikes.

Anything past that is a little WTF for me.

funny that you think it's cheap version of an engagement ring nicole.. i would've never thought of it that way.. interesting..=)

i was never a fan of promise rings.. or anything that promises something in the future.. you have no control over what happens in the future and that sort of makes the promise near obsolete.. i feel better not committing to something that i know i'll have a problem with..

I dont get why you would be angry if he pulled one out....

I expect an engagement ring. Maybe angry is a little extreme, but I would be disappointed.

With that being said, I half expect to be engaged within the next year. If I was with someone who was my age/something that wasn't going anywhere near marriage anytime soon, I would probably be happy with a promise ring. It depends on your situation I suppose.

just dont label it a promise ring and then it can just be a gift. No promise required. Kind of like what my wife and did.

hmm i was thinking of getting a ring for my gf for our 1st anniversary. Any ideas if this is a worthwhile thing to do? I am not made of money so i'm looking for something really nice but affordable. Any ideas where i can find such places?

what?!?! why do you want to get married so young? I'm hoping to not get married till at least 27-28 lol
this merits a new thread......whos gunna volunteer?

    Just always have!

It depends on the person too...he's turning 27 in the next few months to relate it to you!
  • edited August 2009
i dunno, im only 19 turning 20 this year lol

if i was to say to my friends i wanna get engaged it wouldnt go to well haha

Not to be gender restrictive (does that make sense?) but a guy getting married at 20 is weird. Not that I'm mature enough at all, but a guy at 20 is deffffinitely not mature in that sense.
  • edited August 2009
Maybe I'm a commitaphobe but my natural instinct of promise rings is a girl's way of tying down the guy until he mans up and proposes? Although if you think about it, the cheating type of guy is going to cheat regardless of whether theres a ring on the finger or not and the non-cheating type wont cheat either way, so really whats the point of a ring that celebrates nothing?
