Hooting at SFU surrey computer lab

edited August 2009 in General
Ok I know I may come off as a jerk but I am the only one really annoyed by the guy at the SFU Surrey computer lab that keeps hooting all time? He has been there every day for the last week for almost the whole day. I realize he obviously can't help it but most of the time he is just playing games on the computer and he has his own laptop sitting right next to him. Maybe its just me but I find it distracting having to hear this noise every 30-60 seconds.

    O FINALLY!

The first time I heard it, I thought it was the music from my iPod. It was repetitive but out of beat so I looked around and this girl beside me probably explained, ".... can't help it."

I didn't really make out what she said then because I still had my earphones on. So I said, loudly, without really understanding what she said, "I KNOW! IT JUST SOUNDS SO WEIRD!"

I found out on my out where the noise was coming from.

Anyway, I completely 100% agree with you. This guy should at least have the decency to be mindful of the others considering he's almost always there, at the same spot, for long periods of time.

If you're reading this, I hope you understand and I'm speaking in behalf of those who agree!

I also hope you liked my story!

    EDIT---

BTW, believe it or not, when the mall closes, your hooting can be heard from all the way up to the 5th floor. Can't miss it!

This computer lab isn't exactly familiar with the quiet atmosphere and isn't conducive for productive studying. It's almost like telling people on the bus to quiet down - if you're bothered by loud conversations, move away. Don't ask them to keep it down. Or something like that. Although his hooting does stand out every now and then!

Once again this "Siuying" is being over critical. I suggest the other moderators do something about this trolling by "Siuying." =D

is that so? it was pretty quiet and tame when i went to surrey.. maybe it's gotten loud and rowdy these days.. =S but anyway...it doesn't matter whether it's a suitable place for productive studying.. people do try and get work done in there.. it's a computer lab and its purpose is just that.. so i think a certain level of respect should be delegated here..

call me overcritical all you want.. i'm not bothered by it.. =P but trolling?!!! how dare you call me trolling... i say BAN on yooh...

    He's there EVERYDAY?

Does he think it's funny? Or does he have some sort of problem?

ETA: I first thought that it was "shooting at sfu surrey" mispelled lol.

That is the best explanation for it
I've been at SFU Surrey almost everyday this week and so has the wooting... and at night it is sooo loud.
If he is not in the lab he is studying directly above it.

I wonder what causes these crazy, constant, hooting hiccups...

I think the bus is a little different since it is a absolute necessity for some people in order to get around. This person is playing computer games and it isn't necessary for him to be in the computer lab where people are trying to do work, I would be more then happy if then let him go in a group study room and play in there all day and not distract everyone.
