i'm with sky on this one,
the physical connection still needs to be there and like he said just cuz their fat or bigger girls does not mean they have nice personalities.

in the end tho its kind of a stupid question, because it seems like they want to get some sort of general agreement on it when in fact it comes down to individual preferences

I don't see why not. It's not like our dream guy or girl is perfect and is evrything we want in a partner. There are flaws and i think i would because those looks might be temporary and you might never know about the person behind the looks. I think i would date fat chicks because I don't judge people by their looks or because of what others might think of me. If the connection is there it's all good.

This does not imply that i don't have my preferences though.

I wouldn't date a fat guy because I'm generally attracted to guys who are in shape and/or slimmer.

Looks are one of a number of factors in choosing a girlfriend... meaning that being unattractive (physically) doesn't 100% prevent the possibility of a relationship on its own, it obviously does factor in negatively in a big way. Other factors just as kindness, sense of humor, common interests, etc would have to be high enough to compensate.

Although explaining it that way makes it sound like a mathematical formula, there's obviously a certain je ne sais quoi there that will either seal the deal or break it.

As a side note: although we'd probably all agree that a lot of the emaciated women that pass for models these days are far too skinny to be role models, I'm going to be politically incorrect here and say that really annoyed me that those two guests thought (or at least acted as though) they were a "normal size". I'm not sure whether or not it's true that the average woman is a size 14 like they said, but if that is the case, it says a lot about the prevalence of obesity in our society than it does about what a healthy weight is. You can admit that you're overweight without sacrificing your self confidence.

(This is all coming from a guy that's 6' tall and weighs 245lbs... I've got no problem with my self-image or confidence, but I am at least willing to admit that I'm overweight nonetheless, and should probably take care of that sooner or later, if for no reason other than my health.)

i read some study on yahoo a week ago stating that american guys actually find women around 5'3-5'5 with 40" hips attractive.. now that is not to say all men prefer the stated proportion but i think there is a general consensus out there that men like curves..

models who think they're "normal sized" are probably thinking in the model industry terms because in its most grotesque sense (and i'm sorry to say this about models or those who aspire to be future models).. models are nothing more than a clothes hanger for the clothes that are to be displayed.. or an accessory if you will... it has always puzzled me why this standard became the norm for women when it is specifically catered for the modeling industry and not the average jane.. and has probably made a lot of us feel bad about ourselves and/or be the target of unnecessary criticisms at one point or another.. =( glad to finally see that the model standards are finally giving way to more realistic measurements..

now are we talking about an avg size 14 in US or EUR standards cause there's a huge difference.. with the former being much more forgiving..

    I think appearances say a lot about a person--anyone who says appearances don't matter is a bold-faced, pants-on-fire, liar.

Would you date an average bum off the street? No. Why? Because the appearance as a bum says that he is lazy.

Would you date a person in a prison garb? Probably not--said person's appearance marks him/her as a criminal.

Would you date a person who was appeared dirty and smelled funny all the time? Probably not, as said person seems to have low hygiene.

Would you date a person who is obviously obese? Probably not, because said person's appearance makes him/her seem lazy and unproductive.

Of course, there are always people attracted to certain things. A large woman friend of mine has never been short of a date--but when I do get to meet these men/boys, they seem to be from the category of un-attractive men. Quite a few times I hear these men even refuse any public social engagements with her. I suppose these are the men who are into the Chubby Chicken but too embarrassed to make it known.

And not to mention--just because a chick is fat doesn't mean she has a great personality... and who is to say that all healthy women are evil bitches?

Let me explain how this "fat chick, good woman" phenomenon came about...

A fat chick has low self-esteem--she will work extra hard to be good to her man so she would not lose her man to a healthy average chick, who MIGHT be more self-assured and assertive--both traits found to be intimidating by most men (can we even call these men?)

Like Skyy said, he would sleep with them, but would not date them long term--as obesity is ultimately a problem linked with self-esteem. And what a real man would want in a woman is definitely not low self-esteem. It's the same for woman. I would not have a long term relationship with any person who had serious problems with himself, whether pertaining to obesity or not. I'm not there to care for an invalid, I'm not there to coo him and convince him that he is not a fat bastard. I'm there to have a relationship with someone who has as much belief in himself as I do.

And that's why it would be difficult for me to date a fat person.

I thought the average American woman would be taller.

I'm considered 'large' for a woman in Asian. In HK I'd wear a M-L, lol.
Here, I'd wear an XS or S.

I wonder what the average Asian woman is.

Sometimes, it's not their fault they're obese. YOu can't be obese just by eating, there's NO way. There may be an underlying disease that causes obesity... People that eat a lot are just chubby. So if anything, I'm more sympathetic to obese people (not their choise) and less to chubby people (their choice).

Now you're on to individual cases. I have heard of people being obese due to genetics or the type of body they have (they burn fat slower).

But it is also very possible for someone to become obese just by eating and becoming unhealthy. A lot of obese people get that way because they don't even bother to get an average day's walk while eating more than an average person should.

I worked at Popeye's fried chicken and Subway for a very long time. I was constantly eating the food there, ALL THE TIME. Yet for some reason I didn't gain as much weight as I should have. Is it because I'm born lucky? Not really. It's hard work, and actually putting effort into staying healthy. I have no doubt that if I ever became a lazy person who lay in bed all day watching television while snacking on random food, I would become obese.

Also, for those who are obese by nature (not their own faults), I often find that they wallow in self-pity. I have no sympathy for people who rather wallow in their own misfortunes than do something about it. This goes the same for some who choose to end their lives rather than fight to change their situation.

Show me a person who is chubb/fat/obese and proud of it, and I will still like them just as much as I like any other person who is true to themselves. Take Queen Latifah for example. She may be a large woman, but you'd be hard pressed to find many people calling her obese or fat. She's hardly ever portrayed herself as a victim to her physical appearance.

When I think obese, I think of people like 400-500 lbs. Queen Latifah is hardly obese.

I would assume that the majority of the obese population got that fat by eating a lot....

However there are some cases where hormonal imbalances and digestive issues can make it very hard to lose weight. But even in cases like that a person that has enough will to restrict their diet to really healthy food in the right proportions can lose the weight.

....and queen latifah is definitely obese.

Obese is a nice way to say someone is very fat.

And every person has a different version of "very fat".

I hadn't called Queen Latifah obese, Vonnie--I said "obese OR fat".

In general meaning though, obese has come to be a synonym to fat rather than something else.
