Any Fine Arts Major/Minors?

edited July 2009 in General
I'm just starting the program in the Fall and was wondering which courses to take for it? Does anybody know a set course plan that I should follow? Thanks!

No offense, but isn't Fine Arts entirely useless? Like Philosophy?

Well fine arts is probably more useful than the liberal arts actually in terms of specialization.

Job opportunities are a bit more scarce though, but I think anyone in that program is aware of that.

Saying "no offense" before personally attacking someone make you look like an even bigger fool.

    Easily my biggest pet peeve.

    I agree with this.
It's useful, but good luck doing anything with it professionally immediately after graduation. It's a waiting game, for sure.

    Edit: Simple misunderstanding, we're cool.

Yes I suppose I would look pretty foolish if that wasn't the rather obvious point I was making in the first place.
Crap, didn't even notice he said that.
    My apologies. :P

there are lots of opportunities graduating from fine arts.

by fine arts i'm assuming drawing, photography, etc.? not arts as in english, history, etc?

my sister graduated with a business degree from kwantlen, a bachelors of fine arts from emily carr and a fashion degree from JC institude of design.

works in fashion merchandising which is pretty cool.

if your taking about arts and social sciences. unless you go into education chances are you'll be going to grad school (e.x. law, or an MA in whatever field in A&SS).

good luck with your career field.

Talk to your faculty adviser. The adviser will give you a sheet with a general outline of what type of courses you should have.

Make sure you take care of all your breadth courses right away, (W, Q, B-Soc, B-Sci, B-Hum).

You can find a list of these courses at: http://www.sfu.ca/ugcr/. That link will give you a list of which courses fulfill which requirements for your degree.

But again, you need to talk to your faculty adviser as soon as you can to figure out what you DO need.

Yeah, the above is the correct answer. I'm pretty sure Dean Lastoria is the one you need to talk to. If you're going to do speed advising any time soon be aware a) that you need to have your advising transcript in hand when you go and b) that Dean has a fucking crazy advising schedule that varies wildly depending on the day of the week. You can't schedule ahead so you have to go up to CA and look up what times he's doing advising.
