First year business admin courses?

edited July 2009 in General
Hey guys

coming fall i'll be a first year business student. my course registration is in 6 days and i'm pretty clueless on what to take.

i know theres blueprints and advisors etc but i'm looking for some other students that have done there first year and can advise which courses to take.

i know theres some required courses (not sure what they are) for my quantative requirements or something,

but aside from the required ones i would be trying to take courses in the philosophy/psych/anthro department.

thanks

Can't say much about the business courses, but I took these as breadth:

PHIL 100w - easy if you like philosophy. There's a few papers, a midterm, and a final. Plus, Jill McIntosh is teaching it next semester. She's a good prof if you pay attention.

PSYC 100 - easy if you like multiple choice, but don't mind keeping up with the course and studying every week. A quarter of your grade is based on weekly labs/quizzes.

i would advise doing econ 103 and 105 in separate semesters rather than lumping them in one.. some of my friends made a mistake of doing that and their gpa took a blow.. you do not want to start out with a low gpa and then work your way up.. then again there are some ppl who managed to do well so if you're feeling for a challenge by all means take them both in 1 semester..

i found it easier to do 105 first since it gave me the big picture about the world and gov't spending while 103 focused more on companies and how businesses remain in competition etc.

    Start Here: http://business.sfu.ca/bba/options/index.php

    Business Major Checklist: http://business.sfu.ca/files/PDF/bba/Grad_Check_Major_Fall08.pdf

    Then look at this: http://www.sfu.ca/ugcr/For_Students/WQB_Requirements/

Get your core courses straight before thinking of taking electives. The WQB link will tell you which courses satisfy which WQB reqs.
