Are the working-class generally more funny than the university crowd?
I started my first day of four, in a temporary job, at a warehouse in Langley. My working companions are working-class, their language is extremely working-class, the nature of their work is working-class, it's extremely monotonous, extremely undemanding when it comes to job skills, skills required for the job, and bringing, for instance, a copy of The Globe and Mail or Time Magazine into the lunch room would trigger snickers among them.
It literally is 'eff this, **** that, c***' approximately every 10 or so seconds in conversation, it was today and i'm not kidding. Yet there's something inherently comical about them, their language I'll give an example "I hear Bob's getting drunk as hell this christmas"....it's just so typically 'non-educated' It's quite reassuring really, in a strange way.
I'm not going to be politically correct about this, and i'm not a snob. But these guys were very down-to-earth, some people would describe them as 'common', but they are so comical even when not intending to be so, cannot be taken so seriously in a sense. Bit of a culture shock as i've spent the last 3 years at a university, often with people with a similar background to myself, higher thinking (i presume) , a pretty parochial experience unfortunately, and days like these fill you with warmth in a way. Down-to-earthness is a wonderful thing, political incorrectness, maybe because these people are in such a crappy predicament, particularly with their low pay, that as a consequence, they are more likely to be jolly people.....
