Raise Some Shit SFU - Keep Pop Cheap

edited June 2009 in General
Hey TalkSFU,

As I'm sure many of you are aware, the Computing Science Student Society provides a service to SFU students by offering cheap pop($0.75)/juice($0.75)/water($1)/Full Throttle($2.50) in ASB 9802 (near Renaissance Coffee).

The CSSS recently passed a motion to increase pop/juice prices to $1. There is currently no financial need for this increase, so I feel it is inappropriate to raise these prices. Unfortunately, I can't do anything to stop the increase, at least not without your help.

The only way we can block the increase is to pass a motion to veto the increase at the next general meeting (Tuesday, June 30; 11:30am, TASC 1 - 9204 E). The majority of members who frequent meetings are in favour of this increase, as most are executives, and increased funds for the departmental student union often lead to reckless spending by the executives.

If you are opposed to this price increase, please make your opposition noted. Undergraduate majors/minors/honours students in Computing Science, as well as anybody taking MACM 101 or a CMPT class are eligible to vote at the meeting. If you are not a voting member, or cannot make it to the meeting, you can still help. Post your thoughts as a reply, or send them to me (DLH3@sfu.ca) to have them read at the meeting.

Don't let the CSSS raise their prices like Chartwells, help stop the price increase.

Thank you,
Dave Hughes
President, Computing Science Student Society
