Rescheduling Final Exams

edited June 2009 in General
Well, I was looking through my final exam schedule for the Fall 2009 term and I noticed I have three final exams on the same day. I've searched for a while, and it seems that I've found every Universities policy on rescheduling exams except for SFU's. Does anyone know if it is possible to reschedule one of the exams? The exams run consecutively, on the same campus, with 30 min breaks in between.

Also, a link to any relevant info would be nice :teeth:

Any help is appreciated!

You could talk to your profs, though I don't really see much of a problem if one starts 30 minutes after the other FINISHES. Unless you mean one will be starting 30 minutes after another STARTS... then of course that's a huge problem.

Again, talk to your profs, or TAs, they can usually have you take it on another time, and you'd be writing it in their office or something like that.

Usually talking to your profs is a lot easier and gets you a solution a lot faster than going through rescheduling with the school.

I do have 30 minutes between each exam, but it would still be very difficult to write 3 final exams (9 hours) in one day. I'm sure it would effect my results. Thanks though, I'll probably get in touch with my profs next term.

Ya, I think it might be difficult to go through the department since the exams are not in conflict with one another. I mean, it sucks to have 3 on the same day, but it happens more than you think.
Your best bet is to talk to your profs, they are usually more sympathetic to the stresses of students.

    Edit:
Also, the sooner you talk to them the better. If I recall correctly (can't find it online), there is a certain time frame in which profs can make exam date exceptions that don't involve unforeseen circumstances ( illnesses/deaths/etc).

You should have dealt with this in first week and I am going to tell you what they are going to tell you, "you knew the dates of your exams when you enrolled in the class." AKA, they won't care and you will have to deal with it.

Try 4 exams in 36 hours.

There are specified rules of when they will reschedule exams on the sfu website--

the reason why they tell you ahead of time is becaues they don't reschedule unless its for the reasons they allow for (sorry I'm not quite sure what they are, but it is mentioned on the site somewhere)

I really doubt your prof will reschedule them for you

I'm sure they will reschedule if you have three in one day or if you're going from one campus to the other (if gapped with like a 30min break or something). I think you can only have two exams in one day.

Tough break man. Just tell one of your profs you have 2 of your 3 exams happening at the same time, thats what I did. Luckily, I got all my exams spaced out. I'm sure your profs will be accommodating, just tell them asap.

Thanks for the replies. As I stated in my original post, this is for the Fall 2009 term. I realize that students should look at exam schedules before hand for conflicts, but there is really nothing I can do, I have to take these courses. Three of the four courses I need to take (the ones that have exams on the same day) are prerequisites for courses next term. Hopefully one of my profs will be understanding and allow me to reschedule.

I finally managed to get the non-existant policy changed to define 'exam hardship' as 3 or more examinations within a 24-hour period -- so if you have 9 hours of back-to-back examinations in Fall 2009, you should be allowed to contact the instructor of the 2nd exam and have it rescheduled.

This calendar language will go into the university calendar printed for September, but if you look on the third page of this Senate document, you will see the new policy:

Just make sure that you speak to your professors soon after classes start -- don't wait until week 13.
