Dolce Delights -- Catering to your cupcake needs!

edited June 2009 in General
Heh heh... This may be just be a shameless plug and may not even be permitted but eh, oh well!

ANYWHO!

I have been running a cupcake catering business independently since this past summer. My cupcakes are reasonably priced, great party pleasers, and are of course, delicious. I have catered to birthdays and private parties in the past and have most recently catered for Young Women in Business (YWIB) up at UBC.

All of my cupcakes are made with TLC from my loving (now broken) oven and are completely hand-mixed -- no electric mixers! They are also nut-free :)

I am just letting you guys know that I am open for business (sounds terrible) and am willing to cater to your cupcake needs! If you guys need any refreshments for a fundraiser, party, clubs, or private event please feel free to give me a call or e-mail me and I'll see what I can do. I might even be able to even swing you guys a discount ;)

The menu and pricing list is attached with this post. SO! If you guys need to add a little bit of eye candy or a delightful taste to your tastebuds, please feel free to contact me!

They're all regular-sized cupcakes, not minis. They're about the same size as Cupcakes on Denman, or a muffin tin.

And I'll for sure bring them at the next meet! If we ever have another meet sometime soon.... haha

Am I confused about something? Are cupcakes expensive to make? I thought they were not because you could get them for like a quarter at a bake sale. $10 for a dozen seems like a lot to me.

Really? It's fairly cheap if you compare it to Cupcakes on Denman or any other specialty sweet shop. Sure, you can get like half a dozen from Safeway for $5 or so but the quality is really not that great. I should give you a sample of mine and you should compare it to Safeway's... there's a difference!

It's not that they are expensive to make but you're paying for my time and labour to make them and decorate them. And the ingredients to make the simplest cupcakes come just under $10.

And a dozen cupcakes for $10 is less than a dollar. I think my prices are pretty reasonable :)

can you bring me like 1 a day for 12 days?
This is cheaper than buying food at SFU!

What do you propose the price should be? I think they're pretty good as is. If I price any of them any lower, I wouldn't exactly be making any profit. The tea collection ones are easy to make but it's an extra cost to buy the tea bags/matcha powder. For the chai ones, I ground up the chai spice myself. For the sinfully delicious ones, it's an extra cost for the ingredients (buttermilk, semisweet chocolate, fresh ingredients, Oreos, etc.) and also they are more time-consuming to make.

OHHH!! Haha, my bad. The tea ones are reeeeally good but super easy to make compared to the other ones. But thanks for your input!

on top of TLC... with electric mixers you'll destroy the gluten in flour...which are actually strand-like.. when broken (mostly due to over mixing) you won't get the texture you want in cupcakes/muffins.. hand mixing is more gentle so you won't break the gluten strands..

Do you do specialty cupcakes? I'm organizing my parent's 25th Wedding Anniversary and I'm working with the colours of silver and black. I'm going to be making a candy bar in silver, black, and white, but I think cupcakes would be really cool to incorporate in there. Basically, is it possible to do black icing with those silver candy balls? Or something that consists of silver/black?
  • edited June 2009
Black icing is something I haven't played around with but I definitely work with silver cola balls quite often (small and big ones). Another suggestion is to use the silver cupcake liners; it gives the a "festive" look as opposed to my normal, plain liners. Or perhaps you could alternate vanilla and chocolate cupcakes (white and black?) with alternating vanilla and chocolate buttercream?

Examples of silver cupcake liners and cola balls:

Red velvet cupcakes and chocolate cupcakes with vanilla buttercream frosting, garnished with chocolate ganache-dipped strawberries and milk chocolate shavings.

  • edited June 2009
I like the idea of silver foils...maybe black cupcakes (as close to black as you can with chocolate!), vanilla buttercream, and the silver cola balls? That would be perfect!

The anniversary is in September, so still a ways away. Let me know if that's something you can do!

I have a really nice, decadent chocoalte cupcake recipe and they're pretty dark. They're the ones that are un-iced. Mind you, there's flash in this picture:

Also, how many people are expected at this event?

kinky.. you need to stop posting pics if you don't wanna kill someone..
i'm going to stuff myself to death with cupcakes soon enough.. =.="
  • edited June 2009
If they're comparable to black, that would look awesome alternating with white butter cream and with the silver foils and cola balls...I see it already!
I have about 80-90 guests coming (RSVPs are just starting to coming in, so I'll see). But there's going to be a huge dinner and a big candy bar, so I would account for maybe two-three dozen cupcakes? Not 100% sure.

what an amazing way to go out :p

Sure, just let me know when the number of guests are confirmed. For the party that I catered that was posted above (the red velvet and chocolate cupcakes), I baked 110 cupcakes for a party with 200 guests because I'm sure that not everyone is going to want to eat a whole cupcake to themselves, especially when there is a cake available. So, 2-3 dozen for 80ish guests should be fine and is absolutely no problem to bake.

I did raise my prices last two months ago (which needs to be updated on this site) but I will post the new prices tomorrow. They've increased by $1 - $5, depending on the type of cupcake but yeah, I'll do that tomorrow since I'm super tired right now!

    New prices:

    - "The Usual" $12/doz.
    - "Tea & Cupcakes" $14/doz.
    - "Sinfully Delicious" $18/doz.
    - "Juicy" $20/doz.
