Question about paying late tuition. I am paying late tuition right now, and will there be a difference in the amount if I pay say tomorrow, or on Monday (when i have class)? I don't wanna drive all the way up to SFU just to pay tuition.
Sorry to hear that you are paying your tuition late. Hope you didn't ran into any problems lately. Anyways, according to SFU Student Service's "Penalty on outstanding tuition and fees", which you can find here ----> http://students.sfu.ca/fees/
You will be charged an additional 2% per month for any outstanding fees or payment. Meaning, it will not make a difference if you are paying tomorrow or Monday, as long as you are paying within 30 days after May 15. This is not like late assignment where you will be deducted an additional 2% per day it is overdue.

Why not pay online?
Well yes, you can also pay online via money order, internet banking, and wire payment. However, if you are talking about paying via credit card, as of September 2008, SFU will no longer accept credit card as a method to pay your tuitions.
You're not allowed to pay tuition via credit card anymore...that obviously wasn't what I was suggesting.
I meant something like internet banking......i'm only saying so you wouldnt have to come up to pay, or line up at the registrar. I mean, you're probably going to pay by debit, right? Unless you still use cheques...
To tell you the truth, Student Service have been rather lax in charging penalty fees lately. They didn't even charge me for dropping a course this semester.
yeah i noticed that too.. i'm just waiting for them to slap that big $100 penalty on my account...=S
Well, here is where it gets interesting...
I remember reading somewhere that if you drop EVERYTHING (ie: you are not taking any courses), you will not be charged with that $100 penalty.
It appears that $50- $100 penalty are only "slapped" when a person decrease their courseload but are still taking classes. (Ex: From Four courses to two, from two courses to one.)
^you don't get charged with the 100$ fee because they just keep the 100$ deposit you have to pay before class registration.

Ok, first of all, let's just make sure we are on the same page. By "they just keep the $100 deposit" do you mean that they will not give it back to you? If so, this is not true because you can just go to the registrar and ask for that $100 back.
Unless I am mistaken, they usually charge you that drop penalty fee by not refunding all the money you pay for your course. For example, let's say you dropped ENGL 101-3. Instead of refunding that full $462.6 to you, they will only refund $362.6 to you. That $100 difference is your drop penalty.
I'm confused, the 100 deposit isnt a deposit separate from all your money, its just part of your accounts balance, like once you actually enroll in classes youll notice that 100 taken off that amount, isnt that right?

You are COMPLETELY correct, Randomuser. The $100 deposit is not a deposite separate from all your money. When you pay that $100, it will become a part of your account balance, just like any other main fees you pay SFU. That $100 will goes toward your tuition when you enroll in class.
How did a thread on late tuition become a thread on the $100 deposite.
At least two or three days before you enroll in your second or subsequent term, pay your $100 enrollment deposit through online or telephone banking or by cheque or money order to Student Accounts in Student Services, Maggie Benston Centre 3000. This deposit will be deducted from your total tuition; it's not an additional charge.
refering to student's post: the drop penalty shows up on your account as "UG Tuition Drop Penalty" so basically you get the class refund-penalty fee. HOWEVER this only works if you have paid your tuition. The $100 deposit comes into play if you have outstanding charges (ie have not paid your semester fees yet) and then drop ALL your classes. Rather than charge you a penalty, they will simply not give you back the deposit in that case (or if you only owe the $50 fee, you will get $50 back). It just ensures they are able to collect the money, because if someone drops out never to return, they might just ignore the fee completely and never bother to pay it and the school can't really retalitate in the same ways they can if you do that are are still taking at least one course.
If you drop all your courses before the penalty date, the $100 deposit will just remain in your account as excess funds.

Thanks, Student. As I understand, I will be owing $20 extra.

You can pay online through bank transfer.
