hmmm...hi.
Hi everybody, this is jamie chao(means super:smile: ). I'm from guangzhou,China. I'm going to be starting SFU in september.
I'm a little excited about it,and worrying about the social change stuff very much.I mean, like how to create or to acclimatize myself to this totally whole new place.
It is definitely going to be a big change in scenery and weather but I know it will be "an unforgettable experience".(this sentence is a copied one)
so,is there any guider here?thanks for let me chat here:p

Welcome to TalkSFU. Just to introduce myself, I am Student0667. Studying abroad is definitely going to be a unique experience and one that you will never forget. In the mean time, just browse around forum and enjoy. If you got any questions regarding programs and any other matters, me and other members will help you out.
Will you be staying in Rez or living off campus?
Sincerely,
Student0667
Therefore, unless jamie is in the Computing Science program of Zhejiang University in Hangzhou and is here to do her two years abroad after finishing her Foundation Year, I don't think she is in the DDP program.
One of my old roommates was an International Student from China as well. He was slightly shy at first but once he started meeting people and making new friends he really began to enjoy it. By the time he finished his Economics degree he was a completely different person and very fun.
In your first year, try to get involved in school activities as much as possible and immerse yourself in the culture here. Everyone is very friendly and helpful so I'm sure you'll have a good time and get your school work done at the same time!
2nd:ye,the reason of "jamie is a girl "is i talked in a typical girlie way.
3rd:im a girl, and not a DDP student.I will study Educational Psychology program at this fall,MA. And almost know nothing about the life in SFU so I found this forum on facebook.
4th:I guess i need to make a long checking-list for prepare ?like buying books?and find a place to stay? anyone knows the usual way of dealing these in burnaby?where can i get more message about this facet?
5th :thanks again for all of u.

Regarding accomodations/ place to stay, I thought you will be staying in Rez and have applied already. Not that staying in Rez is essential, but I think think that is would be more convenient/ simple for you to live in Rez instead of looking for a place to stay off campus.
There are Housing Locator such as myidealhome.com and craigslist.
http://sfu.myidealhome.com/
http://vancouver.en.craigslist.ca/
Finally, there is the SFU Rez website...

Regarding textbooks, I think that should really be the last thing you should worry about. SFU's Bookstore, where you get your course textbooks, get their stuff only three to four weeks before class starts. Also, with any luck, you can also find course textbooks in the Burnaby Public Library system.
Once again, if you got any questions, don't hesistate to ask.
welcome to talksfu :D
welcome to talksfu jamie.. =)
Do u know Prof.lucy? Can u tell me something about her? thanks a lot!
I know a lot more general stuff about grad student things. One thing is that I'll be staying in Hamilton Hall, I saw you asked a question about that. You should apply soon, spaces must be filling up.
McGill is a great school, and PHD in Educational Psy? gosh, i admire that.
and can u tell me something i need to do before i come here?not the list thing but the prepare thing for the MA study.thanks.
