we'll see what the canucks look like tmr night on home ice. if they can go out and play solid canucks hockey then i think the canucks can pull it off but otherwise if it's a tight game late i have a feeling the hawks will pull it out just because of their speed.

I had to look back to see if you participated in this thread prior to April.. and to both my surprise and disgust, you did. So please, stop being such an uninformed bandwagon hopping bitch and stand by your team during good times and bad times.
What would you have posted if the Canucks did pull out that last 3mins and is up 3-1? A parade route pdf?

i hate bandwagon fans too, especially when world cup time comes around

ok fine i'll stick with the nucks. I'm just saying the hawks are a much better team than people are giving them credit for. They will surely be a great team in the next few years. Anyways i'm sorry if i seemed like i was bandwagon jumping. I just want to reamin realistic. The canucks do have the skill to pull it out and i'll keep believeing this until we lose that 4th game. Go Canucks Go!

Discipline problems again for the Canucks and the PK wasn't up to par. It'll be a tough game for the Canucks to win in Chicago, but they've won on the road so it'll be another close one on Monday.
  • edited May 2009
tough loss, was fairly evenly matched imo for the most part, hawks were simply better in the 3rd

i did like how the refs managed the game for the most part but they had to make those calls on bieksa and kesler late, just too obvious
bieksa got too emotional and it cost us imo, earlier with that after the whistle stuf, and finishing that check with the high stick, very untimely

^i didnt even think the pk was terrible or anything, just a simple breakdown in each of the plays and ended up in the back of our net
kesler with the weak 1 handed clear up the middle, everyone was out of position and the shot just beat luongo
johnson firing the clearing attempt right into kane (mitchell broken stick earlier in the sequence and woulda been in that passing lane which kane took advantage of)

and kinda unfortunate when kesler took out salo at the end, woulda been epic had we made somethin happen there

game 6 gonna b real tough without last change, we've had the lead in every game and hawks have been very resilient

well, they had chances to clear the puck and they weren't able to, and it cost them. With Mitchell, the broken stick was his fault since he slashed Byfuglien stick.

Either way, both teams will be playing hard and it'll be a heck of game in front of 22 000+ Chicago fans.

    * Man, Bieska and Kesler took some pretty dumb penalties there. These guys have been leaders on our team all year, but you just can't take those stupid ones at such crucial points in the game.

    * Willie Mitchell. Again, he's been a warrior for us all year, but he's had two very notable errors these past two games. You're our top D out there, why would you do that stupid slash? Even if your stick didn't break, that would still be a penalty like 9 out of 10 times. C'mon dude.

    * Ryan Johnson.... again, I'm starting to become a broken record but for a guy who does so much for this team, you have to make that play to clear the puck man....

    * I think the speed of the Hawks are really starting to become problems for us. I can't really figure out why they're out-hitting us so much atm, but I think the speed has to be a factor.

    * It's no secret we're gonna need a big effort in Game 6. We've played pretty well in their building all year so I expect us to put up a fight.

    * I don't think it's a mental factor. I'm having trouble questioning this team's mental toughness after all they've been through this year (two deaths, a losing streak that lasted a month), but you have to wonder whether they are just outmatched in the skill/firepower department. Keith and Seabrook have done a great job shutting down our top guys, while their guys like Kane have really run rampant all series. Anyway, that's enough talk for now. Let's hope for a big game on Monday.

The first period was pretty evenly matched. The Hawks dominated the 2nd period up until the Sundin goal. I think they had a PP and did squat on it and the Canucks carried to momentum into a goal at the other end. The referees were pretty fair and each team had calls and missed calls that were about equal. At the end of the day, Bobby Lou can't stop them all (although, I thought he could).

My original prediction was Hawks in 7 b/c I knew how well they can play and how loose a group they are. They also took out a solid Flames team in 6 who were not much worse if at all, than the Canucks.
I've been a Team 1040 listener for a very long time and it seems that since the Aquilinis came in or maybe since they started broadcasting Canucks games, that all of the hosts seem to be pro-Canucks in a biased way rather than as an objective media person. They shut down all kinds of criticism of the team in anyway. This didnt happen before in the West Coast Express era. They all expected the Canucks to manhandle the Hawks in less than 7 games...

We deserved what we got, except for the extra Bieksa penalty in the 2nd.. It should have been even but for some reason we ended up shorthanded.

Overall, we lost 'cause we took too many penalties. They had 16 or 17 minutes. We had 22.

i dont listen to the radio broadcast for the games, but i do listen fairly regularly to their other talk show/post game guys

i think it would be assumed that the home broadcast team is biased towards the home team. Tom Larscheid is an obvious homer and he doesnt hide that fact, im not a big fan of it but they are just catering to the crowd

their talk show/post game guys are fair and critical of the players/team and offer up good analysis. they will take the canuck side of the argument, but i dont think they are being delusional about our chances or are being total homers about it

no one said this was gonna be easy, the callers might be delusional but i dont think the guys on air are leading that charge

anyone here get hockey night in canada in HD over the air?

im thinking of getting the antenna only 20 bucks at monoprice, but so far i have no idea what its like in terms of broadcast quality..

its been a close series but they have had the slight advantage in certain noticeable areas imo (and hence the 3-2 lead)

-hawks forward depth is better (line for line they just seem to have better offensive touch)
-hawks team speed/quickness is better (we're a forecheck/cycle offense, they're a breakout/rush offense, we cant get a good forecheck going b/c their quickness has nullified our forecheck.. and even though we've nullified some their breakout/rush style with decent defensive play, the point above about offensive touch, they've finished plays that has made the difference)
-goaltending has been a wash (for the most part), we needed the better of this matchup, hasnt really been the case thus far

add all that up and even tho it has been close, they've had the upper hand

I like how Campbell did the 1 and a half twist
because obviously thats how you fall when someone grabs you on the shoulder

So what exactly did Burrows say to khabibulin to piss him off ?
  • edited May 2009
F, someone needs to take out Byfuglien, now he thinks hes a goal scorer. The guy can barely string a sentence together and hes just a big dumbass.

How does Byfuglien = BUFF-LIN? More like BY-FUG-LIEN

It was something about Khabibulin being close to placed on waivers
  • edited May 2009
Burrows asked him how it felt to be "put on the waiver wire" earlier this year.

It'll be interesting to see how the Canucks react tomorrow night since, essentially, it's the first time they'll be playing on the brink this season.

Play disciplined and things will be fine, but there's no way they can get away with what they pulled last night.

Mmmm they announce it as BUFF-LIN in the stadium so that's what I go by...but strange pronunciation.

Yeah, thats how they pronounce on TV as well.

How about TOEWS = TAVES? Some unusual last names to pronounce.

    So nervous.

oh well, theres always next year

However you look at it, this season was a success. Not many people predicted the Canucks would win their division and reach the second round of the playoffs. Both Burrows and Kesler emerged during the second half of the season, and the Sedins proved they can perform in the playoffs. It'll be a real interesting off-season to see if the Sedins get signed (and how much if they are) and who the Canucks sign in the offseason. Better luck next season.

    :(

hard to put into words now that its all over. they were the better team this series and their depth/speed/skill got the better of us.

please: the canucks were not the same team that beat st louis in round 1. Chicago dominated in all aspects and luongo did not show up tonight.

Hate to tell you so but those hawks are good. Told ya the nux were in trouble and sure enough this is what happens.

Great season Vancouver and congrats to chicago. Now i hope some people on here actually take me seriously than before when i said the canucks were in trouble and they started attacking me of being a bandwagon jumper. I am an avid canucks fan and always will be but i have enough sense to know what i'm talking about half the time. :P Hate to have told you so but i told you so.
