Burr14, he dropped it with Eager. I'm with you on Rypien not doing too much though. I'd much much much rather see Pyatt in instead of Rypien (or Hordi I guess since Chicago doesnt seem to want to fight)
AV seems to have these unreal man-crush over certain players resulting in rather uh... questionable decisions. I remember being absolutely irate over his decision to play Bieksa over Salo on the 1st unit pp last year (Salo was on the right side feeding Bieksa the one timers...???????) Taking nothing away from Bieksa, he does get his shots through with a decent NHL caliber slapper, but Salo's shots on a different level.
Hmm did he really? I know earlier in the game he stalked Eager for a bit, but I could have sworn he tried to get Sharp to go. I was at the game and not watching it on TV so you're probably right. I don't necessarily want Rypien out of the lineup, he bring speed and some skill to the 4th line, but I most definitely want him to spend more of his effort on getting in on the forecheck and not being a punk when its not needed.

well, thats what Hughson said at least, so I went with it. I'm not sure if Rypien is faster than Hanson, but there should be no arguments regarding who has the better offensive talents. As far as getting under the opponent's skin, I dunno, maybe a bit of a toss up there. Rypien is the tougher of the two sure, but for the most part I'd rather see Hanson in there.

oh the problems that comes along with having decent forward depth!

really? i thought the crowd was lame tonight, especially the immediate vicinity around the front where you were sitting :P
Haha, I was surrounded by Chicago fans so there was a lot of trashtalk and yelling going on. It was fantastic.

lol crazy set up for the rest of the series. Patrick Kane is a good player though and the canucks will need to contain him and Havlat to have a chance.
  • edited May 2009
wow canucks fans are soooooo lame, after Chicago took the lead, everyone sat in their seat and shutup like the game was over....great atmosphere for a home game....this is also why i find it funny when ppl act like home games are an advantage in hockey.
North America will never have the fans that teams like man united do.

Also, Luongo and Varlamov made some pretty spectacular saves tonight

rough game tonite, rather disappointed they weren't even showing any kind of push back when the game got to 2-1 and 2-2

thought we had several golden opportunities to take over when it was 2-0 but khabibulin made very key saves on obrien and bernier that really started to turn the tide in their favor
he basically stopped everything once we got 2 and the hawks kept scoring on us

i dont remember the sequence off the top of my head but the play where luongo had a chance to freeze it and didnt, that play really bugged me, the guys were tired and werent expecting it
led to one of their goals since we iced the puck right after that and never got a change and they scored on that shift
^i believe that was the 2-1 goal?

then mitchell knocked the puck over the glass to put them on 5on3 and u sorta knew it was gonna b tied up

there was other things like the players injuring themselves and not due to the hawks slamming them into the boards or whatever
salo, burrows, demitra (he tried to put a hit on campbell and fucked himself up)

anyways definitely need a better effort from the boys next game, still lots of room for improvement imo on both sides

you get last change on home ice, thats the actual advantage

crowd noise and atmosphere is just things ppl bring up cause its somewhat noticeable and easy to relate to

Hockey fans in the south are a lot more interactive because of the college-type atmosphere that they create. Places like Raleigh, Nashville and Dallas go nuts constantly. While many question the extent of their bases, they have more of an impact if any than Canadian hockey fans do on the energy in the building and on the ice.

As for the game, the Canucks were sitting ducks in the last two periods of Game 2 and its going to get harder to play Chicago especially with 3 of the remaining 5 games on the road in a building that hasnt seen playoff hockey since 2001 (Its either 2001 or 2002...not sure). The Hawks are skating hard and they don't stop. We finally saw the transition game that the Hawks play that everyones been talking about. They're also taking the body too and Dustin Byfuglien is playing like a beast. Gonna be a great rest of the series.

not to mention Patrick Sharp as well.
  • edited May 2009
Sharp is a solid two way player. I think he could have potentially been nominated for Selke too if he wasnt hurt this year.
  • edited May 2009
havlat has crazy home/away splits, i would expect him to be much better than what he showed for gm1/2
  • edited May 2009
that is so true of how badly the hawks are outworking the canucks 5 on 5. Does anyone think we can still win this series? I say it might go 7 with a close game in game 7 and the nux pulling it out. If that happens though we'll be beat up pretty badly for anaheim or detroit next round.

this series is far from over, losing salo is huge tho, and if hes gone for the rest of the playoffs then our chances are severely hampered, but i'll reserve judgment till i see how we play in games 3 and 4, we need a split otherwise we are pretty much toast imo

at this pt u can make a case for any of the teams in the west coming out
and likewise for the east, no overwhelming favorites or dogs
  • edited May 2009
is there any word on the extent of Salo's (or Demitra's for that matter) injuries?
  • edited May 2009
its the playoffs lol all we know is lower body injury

all i know is they are bumping raymond up and inserting in pyatt
and replacing salo with ossi v
  • edited May 2009
    extent, the extent!
At the start of the broadcast, it was speculated that Salo might be back for game 4 and Demitra could be gone for the series
  • edited May 2009
hmm.. losing demitra would hurt but based on the way the kesler sundin and raymond line played tonight it looked like it'll be ok. We miss salo though and no offense to burrows but it's not the same as having salo on the point on the powerplay.

Great rebound win tonight though.. and i think if we can take the same approach to game 4 the canucks have a great chance of finishing them at home on saturday. :) Go Canucks. We can only hope the wings and ducks go the distance of 7 games.

great disciplined win. we get the next one and the series is over.
  • edited May 2009
nice solid win, just basic defensive hockey
a few bad breaks with the pucks over the glass, but the boys held up well
dumb penalty by sedin on that icing, tho makes u wonder if it was semi intentional in a 3-0 game, but dangerous/dumb none the less

all in all things looking alright, you're only as good as your last game in the playoffs and im sure the hawk fans are starting to panic
they said salo might be back for thursday or saturday, so thats another positive

losing demitra isnt ideal, but considering the effect raymond had on kesler (not towing around 2 anchors now) its prob gonna b alright

nice to see pyatt in the mix too, played his role alright, had some good shifts
  • edited May 2009
I doubt it since the Sedins are hardly the cheapshot type
  • edited May 2009
and screw you two anchors lol, Demitra is fast. Not Raymond/Kesler fast, but hes fast
  • edited May 2009
lol but on the whole, raymond has been a much more complete playoff performer than demitra has shown
not really even speed related, just the style of play

whats really sad is that sundin has been reduced to a face off guy, and a power play passer lmao
  • edited May 2009
don't worry if the canucks advance i'm sure sundin will start to perform. winning draws is important because it means we have possesion of the puck :) Go Canucks!

I'm not really buying that argument anymore. First it was let him play 10 games, then it was he'll play better in the playoffs, now its wait until the Canucks advance and he'll bring his "A" game. I think this is the kind of play we're going to see from Mats for the rest of the year. I miss the Mats Sundin that would go into the corner and hit people. Now he just turns away from any kind of physical play. He might still find opportunities to shoot the puck on the power play, but 5-on-5 I see him as more of a support player to Kesler than a player who will change the outcome of a game on his own.
  • edited May 2009
I don't see Sundin playing any better than he is right now, he's had plenty of time to get his game up, and he hasn't done it.

oh oh... seriously guys i think the canucks might be in trouble.

it's a 2-2 series heading back to vancouver.
The canucks have not played that well at home in this series.
They were lucky to win game 1 and it looks like after tonight's loss, i think chicago will take it in 7.

Hopefully the canucks can win saturday and finish them off in game 6 but it looks like these blackhawks won't give up.

Anyone else think the hawks got the slight advantage just keeping in mind the canucks play in games 1-2 on home ice?
  • edited May 2009
we need salo and demitra back :(

i hate to say it but ossi and pyatt are not the same
  • edited May 2009
    lol you bandwagon hopper
    have some faith

I'm not really that worried yet. Vancouver would have won if Mitchell hadn't made that bonehead play into the crowd along the boards. He had so much time to flip it out I don't even know what he was thinking. That was pretty much the only good scoring chance Chicago had in the period.

lol hop back on, losing game 4 sucked, but that was only because we were so close to taking a 3-1 stranglehold
its a 2-2 series and nucks have home ice advantage

yeah id cut mitchell some slack, looks obvious on replay, but it was a split second decision and like av said, other players were out of position which resulted in an ugly breakdown
willie just the easy scapegoat cause of the obvious bad chip

hate to rag on sundin like beating a dead horse, but ugh lol
worse part is i know that he has to be in the lineup cause we really cant replace him with anyone else
    2 - 7 on the faceoff dot, 0 shots, 0 hits, 1 blk. 1 giveaway. 0 takeaway
    ugly.
