Kesler got nominated along with Richards and Datsyuk for the Selke. Nice recognition though I highly doubt he'll win. Richards by a good margin I think.
Nucks should be able to pound Chicago into the boards this series. Vancouver in 6. As for the other second round teams. boston in 6 caps in 7 detroit in 6
my friend got row 28 tickets to game 5 but he paid $420 a piece. Crazy how much prices can go up during postseason. I highly recommend a vancouver giants game instead for prices like that. Giants provide more entertaining hockey and at a much lower price. Good for us students who need to pay off tuition costs :P
I just find it funny when Giants fans try make the argument that the hockey is better in the WHL. I mean, it's not like the Sedins, Iginla, Luongo, etc. aspire to play in the WHL, haha.
cant complain too much about a 1-0 series lead but seriously stupid hordichuk that was a terrible terrible penalty he took in the 3rd at the end boards, ice was alrdy tilted in their favor and he pretty much charged their rally
lucky for us they pressed too hard (inexperience imo) and we got a break to make that rush down ice (nice breakout pass too wellwood, he was money all night)
on the bright side, i would assume game 1 would be the worse showing for the canucks this series due to the long rest, so onto game 2 :D

Rypien wasn't much better as he essentially ran around all game trying to pick a fight. There was one moment there where he actually dropped his stick and a glove thinking Sharp would actually go with him. I think Hordichuk's poor penalty might pave the way for Pyatt to get back in the lineup but Vigneault has been hesitant to pull his goon from games that could end up being extremely physical.
I actually thought the Canucks were the better team for most of the game which would explain why they were up 3-0. Their start wasn't the greatest but after that one big save in the first that Luongo made it seemed that they carried the play a lot after that. They were able to effectively draw penalties and combine that with the Hawks careless sticks. If only they could have scored more on the power play. They'll definitely need to get that going if they are going to win the series.
I also thought the Canucks passed up way too many shots. There was that one play where Daniel looked like he had a wide open net but he passed it off. I was seriously thinking wtf.
For the most part they played pretty well. Chicago has serious offensive threats so obviously they're not going to hold them off the board entirely. Hopefully they can contain Kane a bit better from here on out. It's nice to have the 1-0 lead and I think the Canucks will be much better in game 2.
Burr14, he dropped it with Eager. I'm with you on Rypien not doing too much though. I'd much much much rather see Pyatt in instead of Rypien (or Hordi I guess since Chicago doesnt seem to want to fight) AV seems to have these unreal man-crush over certain players resulting in rather uh... questionable decisions. I remember being absolutely irate over his decision to play Bieksa over Salo on the 1st unit pp last year (Salo was on the right side feeding Bieksa the one timers...???????) Taking nothing away from Bieksa, he does get his shots through with a decent NHL caliber slapper, but Salo's shots on a different level.
Hell, Hansen over Rypien and Pyatt in for Hordichuk for that matter. They both check well and have slightly better offensive touches.
That said though, that early goal in the 3rd by Kane really changed the game. If it wasn't for that boost, this one wouldn't even be close. Talk about being drastically outplayed. Sure the Nucks benefited from the refs a bit tonight, but they sure as hell have no one to blame but themselves with those two high stick double minors.
taews only had 4 shifts in the 3rd period makes u wonder if he has an injury or not (just rumors at this pt), they are denying it, but who knows less than 14 mins of ice time total
despite kanes 2 goal effort he ended with a -3 havlat was invisible too
and did anyone catch scottie bowman go haywire near the end of the game, one of the hawks (seabrook?) went into the corner during the last goal sequence and gave van a freebie 4-1 rush
Campbell He even mouthed it too. "CAMPBELL. WHY WAS HE IN THE CORNER." (something along those lines) It was awesome lol, its like he was blaming the GM. That man knows his hockey! I dunno if the -3 was overblown or not though? One was an empty netter, one was Keith watching the Sedins do their magic downlow and one was a fast counter attack (Kesler's goal) and uh... the other was that late blunder by Barker pinching below the faceoff dot? The defensive zone breakdown by Keith on Henrik's goal, I'm pretty sure Kane is a winger, so he was suppose to be by the boards anyways, so I'd say its more the center/D in front of the net that lost their check (did he get beat by the boards when he was suppose to get the puck out?) On the Kesler goal, I think it was the Brouwer 4th line that was on ice? I think he just got on the ice at a very inopportune time to get that -1 there. Plus I think it was more to blame that both D left the front of the net on that one with no one back checking. The emptynetter was Campbell making a questionable pinch resulting in a 3 on 1 with an empty net, and the Barker pinch well... the overhead shot showed 4 Chicago skaters below the faceoff dot when the Canucks went back 4 on 1. I blame Barker on that play more so than the forwards. So really, yah he was -3 but how much of those 3 were of his responsibility? A bit overblown imo. Sucks that he was the scapegoat, but he was hands down one of the better Blackhawk forwards.
oh trust me, the announcers made sure everyone knew it too (Craig Simpson?) I suspect he may have been beat by the boards by uh.. Bernier I think, on the Henrik goal though. He should've gotten the puck out, thats the only one I think that hes somewhat responsible for. Not sure if it was a horrible line change on the Kesler goal or if he was double shifting though. But yah, sucks for him
Comments
good nomination for kesler though, nice to get the recognition despite playing in vancouver
