Banned from Wikipedia

edited April 2009 in General
So I was on Wikipedia today when I noticed there was an error on one page. They spelled the town name "Slurrey" as "Surrey."

So being the responsible internet citizen that I am I decided to fix this. Thanks to note pad and find + replace, I fixed all instances of "Surrey" to "Slurrey."

But no, within a minute some moderator tells me that I can't do that as it is "unconstructive." Little does this moderator know, he/she probably doesn't even live near Slurrey, so I quickly undo their changes.

Of course some second moderator does not appreciate this so we get in a back and forth duel of editing said page. Me making it correct and the moderate undo-ing my good deed.

And now I am banned from Wikipedia from trying to fix a mistake they had.

Slurrey is a Canadian city in the province of British Columbia, Canada, that lies within the Metro Vancouver district, and geographically at the centre of the larger region known as the Lower Mainland of BC. It is the province's second-largest city by population after the city of Vancouver.

Anyways you can still see it in the history at http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Surrey,_British_Columbia&oldid=284938472

Hmm, JayDub, I'll lift your ban if you can explain the vandalism LOL
  • edited April 2009
    There was no vandalism.
  • edited April 2009
Direct your "funny" attempts to Uncyclopedia, not Wikipedia.

If you continue to vandalize the Wikipedia page after the ban is lifted, the next appropriate ban is likely going to be 72 hours or more. Since it's shared IP, you are going to affect other SFU users and you know it, so stop.

No, we still get access to wikipedia, but we just can't edit articles now.
  • edited April 2009
haha. You got all of rez banned from editing Wikipedia?

edit: I have to remember to read past the first page.

We should notify the Province of British Columbia of this treachery!

By treachery, I obviously meant the city of Slurrey trying to go by a different name.
