Sadly, people aren't rational like that :(. The same reason why people spend more money on a simple shirt that has a special logo, or a Mercedes that drives from point A to B just like a Hyundai.
I wish everyone had the same thinking as you do.

when u compare downtown to Abortsford yes i agree, but u still haven't addressed the flaw in your convenience argument with living @ a 5min walk or literally just down the hill, not downtown, not another city, just down the mountain under 5minute drive. is it really convenience or common sense then to dish out that much money?
If you lived on the hill you don't need a car at all, thus saving hundreds of dollars per month. (value of car, insurance, gas, and parking). Therefore it's actually better to save that money. On top of that, you can't compare a 5 min. drive to a 5 min. walk. Not only is that exaggerated, but YES there is a major advantage of being able to wake up 30 minutes before your class, grab a cup of coffee and simply walk there and still be the first one in lecture. I've lived at univercity, and although I would never pay $1300 to rent there, with a roommate it is a perfect combination (which is what most people do)...$600 rent, plus the convenience of living on campus and no added responsibility of owning a car...and ultimately more focus on school.

Not everyones parents pay their rent for them, but if they can afford it then who are we to say they shouldn't? Would any of us really be here without our family's support?

I purchased a one-bedroom plus den suite at the Hub a while back. After having read this post, I will rent it out at $1700!
