Nice, where? I don't have any interviews yet, I'm starting to think my cover letter and resume sucks majorly.

Does GPA influence your chances at all? My last semester didn't do well to my GPA.
Did you go see your adviser about your cover letter and resume? It really helps to have a one-on-one.

    LOL

the best thing to do is to ask an older student who has been on co op to look at your resume

I disagree actually -- Erika in Communication was fantastic and totally helped me revamp my resume into something that I'm really happy with. Maybe it depends on your faculty.

Is it Sharon? I talked to her as well, and besides some formatting and grammar mistakes, it was FANTASTIC!!!!!!

    Apparently not.

What do you do at PR? I was thinking of applying for the CMPT instructor at day camp, but I hate disciplining kids and telling them to get the hell off Youtube.

That's what she said to me too >_< I didn't find it very useful...

I am still not getting anything from co-op coordinators, should I email them and ask whether they added me to LR?

    try it. might as well.

wait...for LR we don't have to 'apply' anymore, right?
  • edited April 2009
^ Yeah they just send your resume to all the employers fitting the survey description you filled out.

I'm not either. As a matter of fact, I don't even think they're bothering with it. I just apply myself and hope for the best.

o btw when you do get an interview, they likely won't bother putting it through Simplicity, they will just call you.

O btw am i screwed if i didn't save the job posting?

It deals with database. I read that job posting as well. Although I'm not sure if that helps.

I guess the most important thing is sound confident and be assertive. They know you're a co-op student, so they expectations (technical-wise) probably won't be too high. You're going to be learning, so just remind them that you can quickly pick up on things.

Ya, there aren't any jobs being posted on Symplicity. I just got an e-mail saying they're starting to send out the resumes. WTF?? Weren't they suppose to do that back in April 6?

How did your interview go with the SFU PR department? At least you got an interview.

After reading all the cool stories from Co-Opers like Vonnie and Flora, I want to join in on the fun in the Summer 10 semester. However, I ran into a little problem...

You should ideally have completed 30 to 60 credit hours at the time you undertake your first work term. If you currently have more than 90 credits: do not complete the online application until you have contacted an Arts Co-op Coordinator to discuss your situation.
Fuc* me, I didn't realize that there was a credit limit!!!! I have 101 credits right now, what are the odds of them giving me the go-ahead to apply for Co-Op? I want some no bull-shi*, honest to God answer. If you are planning to give me some half ass response, don't bother answering.

Co-op is really lenient. I've already been told that if I end on a work term instead of an academic term, it's fine. And quite a few people get in with low GPAs anyway.

I just completed my co-op term and I worked with another CMNS student....she only had 4 courses left to complete her degree entirely, and they let her in.

My friend ended on a workterm as well, but he only had 1 course left and they only offered it once every 2 years or something. I thought it was just special permission.

They're still sending out my resumes. I'm not going to bother anymore. Guess it's fall for me.

Good luck Pixie and IVT. Hopefully I'll have better luck as well.

Ouch, that's not good. I had about 7-8 applications, no interviews, no offers.

I'm only taking one course. CMPT363. Was considering MACM201, but can't be too bothered.

i submitted 1 application, got 2 interviews (they considered me for another similar job as well), but no offer.
i guess i picked a bad concentration... there were like 3 MIS jobs, while for accounting, CRA alone hired like 30 people (or so I heard from a friend who got hired).

Bad news to be a Business Accounting student right now overall...PWC let go 30% of their employees, and Ernst and Young is at 20%.

I'm applying to do another term in the Fall but I won't be too disappointed if I don't get anything. It's nice to take a break from courses though.
