But I'll be away when they start distributing DE materials (I'll be back on May 3rd). What should I do?
Are you going to have a brief between-semester vacation? Lucky you!
Don't worry about not picking up your Distance Education stuff when they start distributing them on April 14. You can just pick them up on the first day of class or anytime after you came back. You can also request them to mail it to you (even though that is not recommended as mail can get lost).
By the way, if you just want to keep up with the readings while you are away, I can just lend you my study guide. Are you interested? As well as lending you the study guide, I have also put my HUM-130 textbooks for sale at the Book Store forum.
Thanks Student, but I was actually planning on studying for my L...
Yes, I'm 19 and I do not have my L yet. (I don't really want to drive, but a liscense is good ID/good in case of emergancies where I am needed to drive...)

In that case, you can just ask SFU to mail your HUM-130 Distance Ed stuff to you. You can do this by logging onto GoSFU, click on my class schedule, and then click on update distance education material.
If you plan to pick them up on May 05 (your first day, right?), you can expect long line up. In fact, since your first day is packed (correct?), I doubt you will have the time to pick your stuff up.

Don't sweat it, I got my N only three months before I was 19.
I'm a bit worried about the mailing though, because it said it'll arrive a week before the class starts... and that's smack in the middle of my vacation.
My first class on May 5th, I have my HIST 102 tutorial at 9:30 but I'm sure that's cancelled.... It wouldn't hurt if I pick it up late, right? I usually buy my books 3 weeks before or 3 week after classes start because i hate line ups

So you are not going to be on the Burnaby campus anytime after April 14? Don't you have a final for ASC 101 on April 17 and another one for ASC 201 on April 18? Just pick up the package before your final on April 17. The DE office is open during exam time.

By late are you refering to picking your DE stuff up on May 05 or late as in picking it up on Week 3? You really should pick up your DE stuff as soon as possible, preferably on Week 1 because your TM will be posting his/her introduction and course expectations.
BTW, you may also want to find yourself a religious leader to interview as well.
Oooooh, really, does it open that soon? I remember reading somewhere that DE material are available a week before classes start.
I just checked: "Course materials pick-up normally begins three weeks prior to the start of the semester @ 1300 West Mall Complex. Please phone ahead to ensure that course materials are ready for pick-up."
Alright, this is better, I'll pick it up during one of my exam days. Thanks!
Yeah, I gotta think of a cool religious leader... not into (modern) religion so I can't think of anything. EDIT: Whoooooooa, there is a Greek Church. I'm so there. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Greektown,_Vancouver
I have a "CDE Materials Fee" what the heck is that for?
"CDE Material Fee" is the Center of Distance Education Material Fee. That $40 is to pay for the Study Guide and the many important notices you get from the DE center, and the extra fees associated with running the distance education course. It's a rip-off, I know...
I pay for my books when i pick them up, right?
Before we go futher, let's make sure we are on the same page. By book are you refering to the Study Guide and all the other important notices that they give you? You paid for your Study Guide along with the other stuff in your tuition fees.
If you are talking about the textbook Experiencing the World Religion by Michael Molly and Skinny Legs and All by Tom Robbins, you can buy it from the bookstore or I can sell both to you for $70 OBO.
Can I get the books before I pay my tuition?
YES, you can get the study guides and the relating materials before you pay your tuition fees. You pay for the Study Guide along with the other stuff in your tuition fees for the Summer 09 semester. I don't think the DE center deals with money.
If I am not mistaken, I think JayDub picked up his HUM-130 stuff before he paid his tuition for Spring 09.
I'm getting mixed and confusing answers from friends...
That's what we are here for, give definitive answers to questions.
Alright that makes sense now. CDE fees are a rip =T What if you're ONLY taking DE? Do you have to pay for the standard school, gym, health fees? If not, maybe that's why they have the CDE fee... in case people are just going for DE.

No, you do not have to pay for the student service and gym fees if you are taking only DE courses. As for health fees, I am not sure.
When I was taking only DE courses in the Summer 07 semster, I have to pay UG Student Activity Fee (SFSS Fee) as well as tuition. I don't have to pay for any of those UG Rec & Athletic Fee, UG Student Services Fee, and U-Pass because I am not taking on campus course.

Those enrolled in audit courses, designated "off-campus" courses, or distance education courses do not pay (Student Services Fee [SSF] and Recreation-Athletics Fee [RAF]).
You know that CDE fee is refundable right as it is only a deposit? When you give the course reader back at the end of the semester you get your money back.
And yes you can get your course reader before paying tuition. I got mine for next semester today when I dropped off my last semester DE stuff.

Are you certain? There is a difference between CDE Material Fee and CDE Deposit Fee. I can certainly say that I got my $105 CDE Deposit Fee back after I returned my three HIST 338 Course Readers (the three phone books) back to the DE Center last semester, but they never give me anything for my Study Guide.
When you give the course reader back at the end of the semester you get your money back.
But not the Study Guide, just to make sure you are on the same page.

Did any of you guys in CRIM 230 need the course books still?
I have the textbook, casebook, custom courseware, and 2008 criminal code (same shit as 2009), looking to get rid of it all for like $100.

The Distance Education Office is located at the bottom level of the West Mall Complex.
