Studying for the final exams

edited April 2009 in General
I was wondering if the members would like to share how each one of you study for a final exam.

For me, as a science student, I do at least one assignment (every week) in each course that I take every semester. That means studying is constant and it just becomes part of the daily routine. When it comes to finals, I review practice questions, sometimes memorize them since some teachers duplicate practice questions for the final, and lecture notes. Naturally, when it is like a week before my finals, I don't study that much and I feel like sleeping rather than studying. It may sound weird but that is common for me.

What do you guys do?

Sorry, my English is not that great and I have to admit that!

That sounds like a good method of studying. I definitely need to improve my studying habits.

I usually study a week in advanced for my finals, usually clumped together. I need to have atleast two whole days to thoroughly study for each final -- cramming is bad, I know.

Holy crap my first two finals are exactly a week from now..
.. where did all the time go?

I guess for me, last semester, my finals were relatively easy and didn't need too much studying for.. studied for about 2 days max per final. (well, with the exception of one).. I'll be trying to give myself a bit more time this time around.

For all my math-y courses, like you, I just do some practice questions from everywhere to check what concepts I need to brush up on.. focus on those specifically, then go through everything briefly again. After all that, I tackle a sample exam (or more, time permitting) and time myself, then check over it.

For other courses that aren't based on taking concepts and applying them to questions/"able-to-be-memorized" courses (can't think of a good way to term them), I go back and read the text, and create notes for myself, section by section, adding in bits and pieces from lectures notes if necessary. I find making my own set of notes quite handy. If I really have the time and am motivated to do so, I'll make a practice quiz for myself.

    You were playing tetris

When I study for exams, I usually do all my assignments over again.
Then I read the notes over and go over it in my head to make sure I understand it.
Then I skim the textbook to make sure I didn't miss some stupid things...

    my study habits :)
    1.) read the material
    2.) try to understand it
3.) If the material is not coming to me take a break
    4.) try again
5.) still not coming to me then start to question my intellegence about taking this course
    6.) Get a drink
7.) Just hope it's multiple choice.

    LOL

Nah I'm just joking... I usually just read the material and do practice questions for math courses and any other arts courses i tend to brush up on concepts and being able to elaborate on those concepts.

Business courses are mainly the same thing just concepts and knowing how to apply it to certain situations.

I usually start to study like the weekend before my finals :P

I gauge it on how the pro laid out the midterms.

Like if the midterms are word for word out of the lecture slides, I'll memorize word for word. Or if the prof was more conceptual, i'll do problems and stuff.

plus having a photographic memory helps :P
