This summer will be the last semester that Canadian Studies will be operational before it dies and rots in Hell. Therefore, I doubt anybody, especially people in the Canadian Studies program, would trade anything.
Yeah I read that in a different thread. Truly terrible for that one class because it seems awesome. I guess not even CNS majors/people interested in their classes.
That class is almost as good as this one...
Starcraft 101 - Art of War @ University of Berkley
No. All CMPT3xx courses are full or I've already taken them. Don't count on getting a co-op placement either. Ohh, what to do, what to do. I'll probably drop by random classes that I didn't sign up for and just hang out.
Also, good luck in cmpt250 IVT. Are you with Dixon?

How many courses are people taking? 2? 3?
I have 6 right now, and I think I'm going to drop 1 (I'm planning on doing another co-op term in the Fall so I need to bulk up on credits otherwise I'll be here forever!)
CMNS 210 CMNS 230 CMNS 262 ENG 101 BUS 237 SPAN 101
I don't need CMNS 210, but I wanted a day at the Harbour Centre (I can only take so much of Burnaby). Anyone have any experience with thsoe courses?
I was thinking about taking CMNS 210... apparently the prof is good. I didn't do that great in CMNS 110 though, too much stuff for a first level course.

How come I can't get into ENG 101? I get this message: "Error: You are unable to enroll in this class at this time. Available seats are reserved and you do not meet the reserve capacity requirements. "

Well, the wording's a bit vague and all, but to me it seems like it's trying to say that available seats are... reserved? And that apparently, you don't quite seem to meet the requirements needed to enter those reserved seats.
AUGH. Just lost 2 more courses... HUM 130 full... CHIN 100 is closed... JAPN 101 is closed...
Damn.
It is not even three weeks into registration and even these 100-Level courses are full!? What other courses are you planning to take this summer? You may have to rethink your plan altogether.

I actually picked out 11 classes. Only 5 classes I need, the other 6 is kinda "blah, I'll take them if there's nothing left."
Now there's only 2 left that I need (except the times for them sucks) and 3 classes that I don't really want, but I'll take if there's nothing left (but the time sucks for them as well...)
Going to try and grab CMNS 210 and either SA 100W or HIST 102.
I wanted to take 3 courses, but it looks like I'll only get 2 if I'm lucky.
Fortunately, there are still plenty of room in either CMNS 210 (38), SA 100 (46), and HIST 102 (40), so you are in pretty good shape if you want to take something this summer.
BTW, are you taking HIST 102 and SA 100 for your Asia-Canada requirement?
I'm taking either HIST 102 or SA 100, not both... because I only need one for the ASC requirement. I'm leaning towards HIST 102, but I'm not sure if the banjo prof is teaching it. I really want to take 3 courses, but I don't want to take both HIST 102 and SA 100 since I only need one of the two... what to do, what to do...

Oh right, I miss the "plus one of" part.

Prof. Leier? No, he is not teaching anything this summer. Instead, the course will be taught by a Ph.D Dissertations in Progress call James Cousins. I will also be taking a couse on British Columbia with him this summer.
What worries me is that I got no intelligence whatsoever on him. He has a rather limited RateYouProf profile and his expertise is Irish history. How this translate to Canadian history, I don't know...

Just take one or two courses then. Also, if you plan to take HUM-130, you can always try to get in the course in the weeks or days before class begins because people always drop classes. I can always tend you my HUM-130 study guide (DE office doesn't need this back, if I recall) if you are worried about falling behind by enrolling late.
Besides, I wouldn't take SA 100 if I were you because waking up at 6:30 in order to commute to SFU for a 8:30 class just to fulfill some breadth requirement is not worth it.
Now I'm worried, there seems to be nothing on this prof... he may be new? I can't google much on him.
He is new. I think he just started this semester.
According to GoSFU, he is teaching a course right now called HIST 424: Problems in the Cultural History of Canada. I should probably hunt down a few people taking his class now and ask them up front.
His seminar is at AQ5028 from 1:30PM - 5:20PM on Monday.
Too bad I have a class at exactly that time, otherwise I would drop in... but then again, it's a seminar, it's probably a small class, haha.
I am free at that time, so I will probably be outside the room eavesdropping on the seminar and interviewing students after the seminar ends. Expect a report this Monday evening.
Yea, too bad it is a seminar (20 people max), or else I would have drop in as well. That's the best way to get a sneak preview of a professor, listen in on his lectures and interview his current students.
so do they just cancel classes that no one enrolls in? One of the classes I want to take is in both burnaby and surrey, but surrey only has 5 out of 80 seats taken. and i wanted to take that one....

Looks like a pretty slack elective!

Now that you mention it, the course outline for HIST-102 is up. http://www.sfu.ca/history/ugrad/courses/Summer09/H102Wcousins.pdf Just take one or two courses then.
