two questions

edited March 2009 in General
Im planning on enrolling for these courses on tuesday:
Math 152
Chem 122
CMNS 110 -distance education
crim
Its four courses because I got 11 credits for my first semester(fall 2008), and getting 12 credits on my second semester with no sign of failing(The current semester)

But is CMNS 110 a good Idea for distance education?

Also I was originally plan to transfer to SIAT so I took cmpt 120 but i decided to stay in my faculty science and take physics instead. but It said it requires CMPT102 in which I cant take after I finish 120. Does that cause problem or do I just have to get it approved?

I took CMNS 110 as a lecture class and got an A-, and i also took CMNS 130 through DE and got a C-. I'm a CMNS/POL major, and I would say that although POL courses are generally easy through DE, CMNS ones aren't! Also CMNS 110 is quite abstract and theoretical if you aren't knowledgeable about social sciences or Communication. It also has a lot of reading, even as a normal class, so I couldn't imagine it as a DE.

All in all, if it's just for an elective, there are many other courses where you may get a higher mark in. If you must choose a CMNS class, 130 may be more interesting too as it's directly applicable to what you encounter daily through the mass media.

Hmm i'm not sure what lower division courses are offered this summer. But most social science courses require a good amount of reading and at least one paper, and basically are the same in the level of difficulty; choose those you find to be interesting. However, I found intro classes to SA and Arch to be pretty easy. Pol, CMNS, Phil, Eng, Hist, and Psyc/Crim (good if you like memorizing), are a bit harder. Kin if you are good at memorizing things you'll get an A+. That's for me anyway.

It seems like you're good at math; Ling and Phil use a similar logic, but based around arguing and writing. Whereas, the other social sciences are less empirically "logical".

Oh, and 200 level courses are not more difficult than 100 level ones. In my first year I thought I should stick to 100 level courses because I thought 200 ones would be much harder. Turns out, those "intro into ____ courses" were the most annoying because you had to remember so many different things that do not connect with each other. 200 level ones cover a lot of material too, but at least within a branch of a discipline, instead of the whole discipline.

    Good luck :)

Yes. It is good idea to take both courses together since most of the stuff overlap and it will be easier for you. I made the mistake of not taking both classes the same time and I had to study the same stuff for two different semesters.

Chem 126 is an easy lab and I hope you will do fine.

    Good luck!
