Crim 320

edited March 2009 in General
I loathe the idea of taking this class but it's required :(

Anyone taken it before? Am I better off taking it via DE or should I take it on campus? Which prof would you recommend I take it with? I don't plan on passing with anything better than a C or (and I'm really stretching it) a C+ because I am just that bad at stats.

Thanks!

take it in class, much much easier to follow along as oppose to getting behind and lost

Its not that hard DE, just dont fuck up the written proposal cause they mark really harsh on it.

I think our class average was something like 70%

What was the written proposal like? Similar to that of 321? I would prefer to take it via DE but the thing I'm worried about is, if I need help I won't be able to just go up to the prof after class is over.. Plus I'm the Queen of Procrastination, I'm sure that could very well fuck me over..

    Who was your prof?

Garth davies but the course is purely administered by some random TA.

I think the proposal was more harshly marked than the one for 321, but it was only 20% anyway.

I don't think the problems you have will be with the course content, but how to do certain things they ask you to do with SPSS with the online assignments, but it gets obvious towards the end what to do.

There was definitely times in the first 2-3 assignments I felt lost, but the last two are easy, and the midterm and final are easy if you are decent at studying.

i took this with Davies in class last semester and it wasn't a hard class.. the assignments were easy (SPSS is pretty user friendly) but the TA was very specific about what she was looking for in the midterm, especially with the definitions.. the research proposal was brutal though.. but part of that was probably due to me doing it 2 nights before it was due.. so yeah.. don't do what i did if you know what's good for you.. =.="

the final was wwwaaayyyy too long.. @_@ it was around 30 pages!!! and supposedly SA questions were not short answers at all.. i was only halfway through the exam before Davies announced we had 45 mins left.. and i just barely finished the exam before time was up.. more than half of the class was still sitting there when our exams were collected.. i talked with some of my frds and most of them were in the same boat as me.. we all agreed that the exam needed more than 3 hours to finish..

Thanks for all the advice/info randomuser and siuying :)

I've used SPSS once before for a crim class I took at Kwantlen, I have to say I did not find it user friendly at all! The teacher would go way to fast in her explanation of how to use it and I was so lost that I just ended up dropping the course..

I think I will probably end up taking 320 via DE though.. I've heard some sketchy things about Davies..
