Who said anything about Paling supporting Andy? As it turns out, that whole Paling become President again, resigns, and Andy take over is a total lie. In fact, Paling pledged his support to Mona Law for MSO.

Andy is probably nothing more than a, for the lack of a better word, groupie in Paling's circle of friends.

    you forgot burnaby :P

i dont know why andy as one person thinks he can make university free i mean even in socialist countries where the uni was paid by the govt have now either been privatized and/or incur some kinda fee to the student. i really dont understand where he can even get the idea that somehow it can be free in todays society with this market.
heck in 2006 i was in Athens @ the massive protest. there were something like +30,000 students protesting for this cause (the greek govt was passing a bill to privatize universities) and guess what ? 30k ppl and i bet they now have to pay tuition :P so andy as one person can go play with himself cuz he aint gonna change shit. making a claim like that and expecting people to believe in him is quite insulting. like does he really think people are dumb enough to believe in something like that?!

I don't think so, and as Student said, Paling didn't endorse Andy this time around. Apparently it had to do with Andy having communication problems. I can see why.

this is what went down between shen and paling:

andy worshipped joe. andy wanted to run for president. joe didnt want him to. joe told him he would run for re-election, just to push andy out of that race. so andy did not run. then when the anti-cfs/anti-studentsforu slate was being setup, andy wanted mso, but two of joe's "advisors" (as andy put them - dave roberts and dan d'alimonte) came out against him and said he couldnt communicate worth jackshit and would not be elected. the three of them (paling, roberts and d'alimonte) tried to convince him to run for at-large, but i guess his ego couldnt handle it.

the slate was never created - it ended up just being a loose coalition of independents - but you can see who endorses who - and andy is not who they endorse for mso...

mona law is smoking hot, she gets my vote

^Nicely summed up, aninformedstudent. I can totally see why Joe is getting at, if Andy running of President, Natalie Bocking will most likely win. Afterall, even though I think Bocking is a Treasonous Bit*h who should be hung off the Convo Mall ceiling, I can not bring myself into voting for Andy Shen.

P.S This is rather embarrassing. When you guys first started talking about Nigel, I thought you guys were refering to the black guy. After I ran a search on him did I realize that he was the third candidate for the MSO... :embarrassed:

    Dear TalkSFU,

Do you remember a while ago there was this troll who opened accounts call Adolf Hitler, Hermann Goering, Pedophile of Love, etc. Later, an "Andy Shen" created this thread...

Well, I checked the IP of "Andy Shen" and its turns out the Hitler troll and "Andy Shen" were the same guy. Meaning, someone pretended to be Andy Shen and we fell for it. Furthermore, I HONESTLY don't know why anyone would want to be YOU, Andy.

Just though you may like to know...

    Sincerely,

    Student0667

Simon Fraser Student Society currently offers a variety of services. After being elected, I can promise you that I will make sure none of the qualities of the services will be decreased. In fact, I promise you that I will improve the qualities of those services.

    [a] CAMPUS LIFE

    MONTHLY EVENTS
Currently we have semester events such as Ice Cream Day, Pancake Day, Corn Day; I wish to increase these events to a monthly basis so that it will create a place for students to socialize as well as getting food in between their classes. Not only will these services be offered at SFU Burnaby but it will also be offered at any campus where the population exceeds 10%.

    ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGES FUNDING
Currently the Simon Fraser Student Society only provides funding for non-alcoholic events. I would like to extend club funding to alcoholic events so that clubs such as SFBrew can host events and buy alcohol for club members. These alcoholic beverages, if SFSS were to fund them, must be purchased from Highlands Pub.

    CLUB WEB ADMINISTRATION
I wish to make all club sign-ups online so that (a) we will not waste paper, (b) member lists will be easier to manage and core funding grants will be determined automatically, (c) members will not need to be at school on club days to sign up for clubs. Additionally I wish to make an administration website using the same interface that will allow students to securely create a new club online; manage the club online (such as managing the club executive roster); check club finances (core total, active and past grants); and any services that you usually need to go to the SFSS GO. Students will also be able to transfer club powers between accounts. The System will be authenticated using the SFU Accounts.

    CLUB FUNDING
I wish to increase core funding for clubs at SFU Surrey as they have fewer students than Burnaby. Since core funding is distributed based on the amount of members, clubs in Surrey are at a disadvantage. I wish to increase core funds for students at SFU Surrey. I also wish to increase grant budget for all SFU clubs as well as DSUs.

    STUDENT FACULTY ASSOCIATIONS
I wish to allow each faculty to have a greater voice inside SFSS. I wish to create five new Faculty Student Associations with memberships extended to DSUs inside the faculty. The Faculty Representative elected to the SFSS will chair their respective FSAs with representatives from each DSUs sitting on the board. The FSAs that I wish to create are the following:
    - Applied Science Faculty Student Association
    - Arts and Social Science Association
    - CAT Association (CATA)
    - Environment Faculty Student Association
    - Science Faculty Student Association
Business, Education and Health Science does not have multiple DSUs so it is not necessary for them to have a FSA.

    NEWSLETTER
I also wish to create a newsletter that will be emailed out bi-weekly (2 times a month) that updates students on SFSS Activities as well as allowing free club event advertisements.

    TRANSPORTATION

    INTRODUCTION
All Simon Fraser University campuses are commuter campuses. The majority of the students in our great community do not live in UniverCity or in Residence up on Burnaby Mountain. Students rely on transportation more than you think!

    BUS FREQUENCY
I will work with Translink to increase bus frequencies to all Simon Fraser University campuses, including the 135 (95 B-Line later this year), 143, 144, and 145 during rush hours in the morning and in the afternoon.

    SKYTRAIN FREQUENCIES AND HOURS
I will work with Translink to keep the Millennium and Expo SkyTrain lines running late so that students can stay later on the Surrey campus or the Burnaby campus. Not only will I promise to keep the Skytrain operating late, I will also promise to keep the 145 running late hourly so that students can stay later on the Burnaby campus and be able to get o the mountain at late hours.

    EVERGREEN LINE
I will work with the Mayors of Burnaby, Port Moody and Coquitlam as well as MLAs and MPs to ensure that the Evergreen Line will be completed as soon as possible.

    VOICE FOR POST-SECONDARY
The Mayors Council is composed of the 21 mayors of Metro Vancouver municipalities, who represent the interests of the cities in the region. The Mayors’ Council appoints the Board of Directors for Translink and the Commissioner. It approves plans prepared by Translink, including the transportation plans, regional funding and borrowing limits. I wish to work with Translink as well as the mayors of the lower mainland to create seats for U-Pass institutions - including the University of British Columbia, Simon Fraser University and Langara College - on the Translink Mayors Council.

    SURREY-NEW WESTMINSTER BUSES
I wish to pressure Translink to introduce buses as an alternative to the Expo Line linking Surrey to New Westminster. According to surveys I have conducted, multiple students have stated that it is difficult to commute if the SkyTrain is broken down.

    [c] ACADEMICS

    INTRODUCTION
Many changes have been ongoing here at SFU in the past year. SFU recently had yet another funding cut and we are the first university to get hit with it and received the biggest funding cut this year. As a result, funding for departments have been cut, class sizes have been decreased due to lack of funding (we even had tutorials that were abolished in departments such as Psychology). This is unacceptable to students. In order to stand up against additional cuts, we need a representative who can stand up for your issues and say NO!

    TEACHING ASSISTANTS
The communication skills of our Teaching Assistants are inconsistent with their salary and often confuse students who request for help, usually in the Faculty of Applied Sciences and Faculty of Science. Sometimes the Teaching Assistants do not understand the needs and wants of the student and their expectations. I will work together with the University Relations Officer, Teaching Support Staff Union, Simon Fraser University, and the Student Learning Commons to establish funding for and facilitate Teaching Assistant Training.

    TURNITIN.COM
Departments such as Political Science, Philosophy and History currently use a website service called turnitin.com. The purpose of turnitin.com is to make a copy of your paper on their server and match your paper with other papers currently in their system as well as any published materials. This service that SFU subscribes to is a violation of student privacy and student copyright. I will work with the University Relations Officer to lobby the Senate to abolish the use of TurnItIn and work with the SFU VP Academics and the Senate to create alternatives that does not violate privacy and copyright.

    MORE PRESENCE OF REQUIRED COURSES
Required courses should be offered every semester, not once a year. This is a problem in departments and schools such as Engineering Science and Interactive Arts. I will work with the Senate and the University Relations Officer as well as various school departments to determine which courses should be offered all year round and make sure they are offered all year so that graduation for students will not be delayed.

PUBLIC PROFESSOR AND TEACHING ASSISTANT EVALUATIONS
I will work with the University Relations Officer and the Senate to open up Professor and Teaching Assistant evaluations to the public so that students can strategize on how to get a better mark in school, as well as for professor and teacher assistants to be self-conscience of their public image.

    [d] TUITION FEES

    INTRODUCTION
Our tuition fees are on the rise. From the academic year of 2001 to the academic year of 2008, tuition fees have risen by approximately 108.0% (+ 0.1%). This is unacceptable to the students of SFU; prospective students; as well as students who could not afford to get a higher education. Upon being elected, I will meet with the SFU administration; UBC administration; UBC AMS; other universities and student unions in British Columbia as well as local Members of Legislative Assembly to formula a plan that can help decrease our tuition.

    CREATION OF BURSURIES
I will work with the University Relations Officer and Simon Fraser University to establish a bursary program to all students in need and not for those who apply for student loans. SFU should be encouraging higher education, not for higher education.

    CREDIT CARDS
Currently, the university allows students to pay their application fee via credit card, but they do not students to pay regular fees using it. The reason is that the credit card companies charge the University for Transaction Fees. I wish to work with the University Relations Officer to pressure the university re-introduce credit card processing, but allow the university to charge students a tax for all credit card transaction to make up for the cost.

    LOBBYING EFFORTS
I will work with the External Relations Officer to request to meet with the Minister of Advanced Education at least once per month to set monthly goals that will help students in British Columbia in lowering tuition costs. I hope to create a round-table meeting so that UBC, University of Victoria, and other post-secondary institutions in British Columbia can join.

    [e] CARBON NEUTRALITY

    INTRODUCTION
During the Simon Fraser Student Society elections, Simon Fraser Student Society clubs day, and day-to-day operations of the Simon Fraser Student Society, papers as well as other non-renewable resources are being consumed. I will introduce initiatives that will reduce the consumption of non-renewable resources.

    SFSS ELECTIONS
I wish to motion to enforce a ban on posters as well as other non-renewable resources being used during the Simon Fraser Student Society elections. Last year, I was able to get second place in a seven-person race for University Relations Officer without using any posters or handbills.

    CLUB ADMINISTRATION
    Please see “Campus Life”

    [f] SFU SURREY

    INTRODUCTION
Over the past few semesters, I have been commuting to SFU Surrey for social interactions and club meetings. I am part of clubs such as SFU Hiaspire Magazine. I feel that the SFSS presence at SFU Surrey is limited and I will work to extend most SFSS services to Surrey.

    COURSE OFFERINGS
I hope to work with the University Relations Officer to pressure the University to increase the number of elective courses in Surrey so that students will not have to travel from campus to campus in order to finish their WQB and/or courses in their major.

    CLUB FUNDING DISCLOSURES
I will motion to increase core funding for clubs at SFU Surrey because Surrey has fewer students than Burnaby thus cannot host big events. Events at SFU Surrey should not be limited because Surrey has a smaller market of students.

    TRANSPORTATION
I will work with the External Relations Officer to meet with Translink to extend the hours of operations for the SkyTrain and introduce bus services so that students will not be stranded in Surrey after midnight.

    STUDENT SAFETY
We need to ensure that the safeties of the students are not at risk. I will work together with the External Relations Officer to meet with the Metro Vancouver Mayors to ensure that students are commuting and studying at a criminal-free zone. We need to make sure that there are mandatory prison sentences for gun crimes, violent predators and sexual predators. Criminals are not welcome around SFU students.

    [g] SFU VANCOUVER

    NEW CAMPUS
One of our Vancouver campuses is near completion. New campus does not mean that they will have a new student society. New campus means that there will be SFU students who will attend that school. I will do everything I can to ensure that we will have an office at SFU Vancouver similar to the office that we have at SFU Surrey. Additionally, I want to ensure that the SFU Vancouver office will be an environmentally sustainable office.

    [h] UNIVERSITY RELATIONS

    REDUCING TUITION FEES – ATHLETIC
It is currently an era where many organizations and individuals are reporting deficits (including the Government of British Columbia). I wish to work with the school to lower athletic fees for students currently attending Burnaby campus.

REDUCING TUITION FEES – TUITION FEES
I will work with the university to set aside money each semester so that SFU and SFSS can cooperatively campaign with each other to the Government of Canada as well as the Government of British Columbia. It is important that the students and administration work together so that together we are a greater voice.

I truly don't get all the Andy Shen hate, and I never have. He's just sort of an awkward, quiet guy with some social problems and very low self-esteem. It truly saddens me, how totally people will band together to shit all over him. Some of it he brings on himself, but a large portion just comes from the mob mentality; here is someone we can all hate together!

I will not vote for him, but I also won't go out of my way to try to make him feel like garbage.
