Vote Andy Shen in the next SFSS Election!

edited March 2009 in General
Hello fellow students of Simon Fraser University. As you may all know, my name is Andy Shen and I am running for the Members Service Officer position in the SFSS. I hope you will all vote for me because it is the right thing to do.

If I am voted into power, I will commit myself to the following changes for the good of all students:

1. Remove tuition fees so students no longer have to worry about not being able to afford (or at least try to reduce tuition fees)

2. Improve the living conditions of the Student Residence

3. Increase the amount of money the SFSS has through various money-making schemes

4. "Fix up" the pub and the problems it currently holds

5. Improve the quality of Professors and Tutorial Leaders along with returning various dropped courses (and the professors that were dropped with them)

6. Fix up the condition of the school (ex. the pond, the roads, etc)

I hope you will all choose the right path and vote me in the next election!

Disclaimer, please read

Investigations conducted by member of the TalkSFU team has confirmed that the original poster of this thread is in fact a well known troll/spammer of this forum who impersonated MSO Candidate Andy Shen. The original poster of this thread is not the real Andy Shen, I repeat, the original poster is not Andy Shen.

    Hahahahahaha ha hahaha haha haha.

    Seriously though,

I was going to draw up a list of reasons why each one of your campaign promises is absurd, but I won't waste my time.

In short, what position do you think you're running for? Prime Minister? President of the University? Director of Facilities?

if those are the highlights of your election campaign i feel sorry for anyone who votes for you.

    1. what you're suggesting is completely impossible unless you expect proffs and school staff to work from the good will of their hearts. also i dont think you're in any position to actually try to get this kind of thing through. unless we adopt a policy like in the netherlands where the population is taxed 50% of their income there will be no such thing as a free education in this country.

    2. i dont live in res so i dont care. this applies to a very MINUTE part of the sfu student population. dont think you're going to win over alot of people with this one.

    3. lets hear these money making schemes before u even state that you even have said schemes. also what good does it do if the SFSS has lots of money? how does this contribute to students?

    4. i dont go to the pub alot but the few times i've been there it seemed ok. whats there to fix? throw in a few more pool tables and i'd be happy.

    5. how do you plan on doing this? im curious.

    6. what your proposing is a multi-billion dollar project where you will most likely not be able to conjure up the funds for.

your promises are asinine in that they dont address current issues that students are facing.

your promises are next to impossible for someone of your standing to achieve.

your making promises which dont appeal to more than half the student population. not everyone goes to the pub, not everyone lives in rez. not everyong believes the quality of education from proffs and ta's is poor and not everyone is complaining about the condition of the school.

please make some realistic election promises which are within your actual power to achieve instead of trying to get our attention with lofty idealistic election promises.

the right path is obviously not you and voting for you in the next election is probably a dumb thing to do.

so please go fuck urself and maybe you'll think of better promises than what you've suggested.

The scary part is there are people on campus, stupid enough to think Andy's a fucking messiah and have and will vote for in this election, and any future elections.

There's a high chance this asshole is going to win.

He's in that program for people who've been asked to GTFO of school, but are willing to pay $500 to try and stay in.

I'm sorry you all think this way about me but I am honest about my work and do believe I can bring a change to this school. All of you have never yet even seen what I can do but have already stereotyped me as a "douche". Why not take a chance and vote for me? Maybe I will be able to do what all my predecessors could not. Maybe I will be able to change this school for the better. Why not take that risk and see how far I can bring this school?

Some of you believe that my goals do not appeal to the masses but think of it this way. Each goal by itself does not appeal to a mass but together, they cover the masses itself. As for me being "not academically adequate", that is a poor way to judge a person. So, getting "poor grades" automatically labels a person as being a douche?

If I can increase the amount of money the SFSS holds, we can improve the conditions of the school with that money and hold many more fun events for all the students. I have many schemes to make that money but it would be unfit to announce these schemes when I have not even been voted into power yet. If I am elected, I would be happy to share these schemes with you all.

Don't vote for Mona. Her leadership skills are poor and unacceptable. I admit she does have some skill but she does not have enough experience yet and her being elected will only drive the SFSS into the ground. Vote for me and I will make living and learning at SFU a better experience.

Take that very first step on a path of change by voting for me and together, we can make SFU a more enjoyable place for everyone!

No, but if you can't measure up to the minimum standards of the university, you should not have a hand in directing its future.

    Andy Shen,

You may not have been aware of it, but I was right behind you in line at the bubble world earlier today. It was very obvious to me that you were mindless of the long line of people behind you waiting to suck some... pearls. You were slowing down the bbtea line a while ago in the middle of a busy period.

Now that I know you're running for a position in the coming elections, were you campaigning to the staff? If so, stop doing that. At least be aware that the staff is in the middle of servicing the same people that you're volunteering to serve as well. Will you be slowing down the sfss and sfu students like what you did this afternoon?

Or were you just flirting with the bubbleworld staff just when I was about to get my honey milk tea which I stared at for about a minute or two sitting at the sealing machine waiting for the staff to attend to it so they can give it to me? Were you not aware of the lady's lack of interest with anything that you had to say? You could've lost them some revenue from potential customers.

Also, I heard you refer to yourself in the third person. Can you please confirm that. Thanks

    Mona that is.

Andy, you failed to address the fact that you just can't fulfill most of the promises you listed on the original post. Most of them don't even fall under the responsibilities of the position you're running for. Get rid of tuition, fix up the roads and school, deal with the prof/TA issue? Why don't you solve the homelessness problem and get started on world peace while you're at it?

God you're such a fucking politician. Do you listen to yourself?! You're promising stuff you can't possibly deliver. And you think YOU have enough experience? You can't even hold a realistic platform.

I am a nice guy and would never call anyone a douche, but your campaign promises are very unrealistic and hardly addresses any REAL issues that we students are concerned about. Off the top of my head, I have a few problems with your "improve the living condition of Rez" promise.

1.) Only 9% of SFU students live in Rez

2.) I am currently a resident of the McTaggart Cowan House in Rez and I love my room and building very much.

Also, almost all the problems you promised to solve does not exist at all or are beyond your ability to solve. In response to your campaign promise...

    1. Rather you like it or not, SFU needs tuitions or substantial government funding to remain operational. Therefore, your "remove tuition or reduce tuition" promise is undeliverable.

    2. Like I said above, only 9% of SFU people live in Rez and you are just making up problems that doesn't exist. You should spend a semester or a year in Rez just to see how "bad" the living condition is.

    3. Let's hear the plan, Mr. Donald Trump. Money Making Scheme!? We are in a recession, we would be lucky if we can avoid deficit.

    4. Who do you think you are, Chef. Gordon Ramsay? Don't comment on things you have no clue on.

    5. Programs die because they sucks. Look at Canadian Studies and give me one good reason why we shouldn't sentence it to death.

    6. Fix this, fix that... You care to explain to me where you will get the authority to do such things and where you will get the money?

No, I think you should be more worried about getting your sorry ass RTWed instead of things that doesn't concern you.

Wow that didn't seem a confident response at all. Maybe we should experimentally vote for you and risk a term to see whether or not you are capable.

I remember the year my GPA went down is because I was simply lazy. Not dumb at all, just lazy. Why would you choose a program that you're not very efficient? Bad decision making, or just wanted to have a lazy time?
