jay bo is still in play, lots of rumors floating around i dont even think ppl realize how good this guy is, if we can agree on signing (might raise cap issues but w/e, franchise d men are hard to come by so they will figure it out)
Deadline Day Today :) Wow So the flames made the biggest splash so far Olli Jokinen. Iginla, Cammaleri, Jokinen, Bourque, etc... The Nucks i heard was still going after jaybow. Oh well Bieksa, Raymond, and a first? I would do that. Loving Burrows play lately. He deserves all 8 Million :) Go CANUCKS GO
Big game saturday against the sharks i say 3-2 nux
Problem is, Bouwmeester might not re-sign with us in the off season even if we get him, coupled with Gillis having said a few times next years 1st rounder and the big three (Grabner, Hodgeson and Schneider) will not be moved for rental player, I'm not sure we have what it takes to get him. There has to be better offers out there for Bouwmeester..
And on just how good he is, I think he can be a bit more physical & use his size more, but just the way he is now, I think the only better all around D in the west than Bouwmeester is um... Lidstrom, Pronger, Zubov (pending how he plays once hes healthy) Niedermayer/Boyle/Campbell (more offensive than defensive), and um... Phaneuf/Weber, maybe.
thats why im saying its conditional to that we can get an extension/agreement out of him before we make any trade (no way we trade off bieksa+ for rental)
and he is better than a number of those u have listed, the dimensions he can bring, size speed physical puck mover & pp threat eats up 28+ a night did i mention he is only turning 26 this year he is one of a kind in this league cant say enough good things about this guy lol
only bad thing is no playoff experience, but u coulda said that about luongo when we got him too, so ya
thats the thing, hes not physical enough... also, I really do think theres better packages out there for someone like him. So odds of him being here is like... not good. We'll find out in the next 10 minutes as the last minute deals trickle through to the media!
yeah jay bo stayin in florida, if they dont make the playoffs now, disband the team lol
no moves for the canucks, guess we'll hear over the next couple of days of how close things got
edit: interesting to note in the press conference, gillis said last he spoke to florida gm was 545 in the morning and the speculation on the tv/radio bout jaybo was unfounded lol
Unless Calgary goes on some unbelievable losing streak, it's not happening. We can keep playing this well, sure, but that's not enough. They're 8 points ahead of us, and not only do we need to win, they need to lose. With 18 games left, and Calgary totally hot, I don't see it happening.
we've got a good team here. he is pretty candid in his interviews, he seems and sounds satisfied and happy with how things are at this point and has said as much
dont think we will catch cgy imo, just too few games to make up the pt difference, possible yes, probable no in all likelyhood, we will be matching up against chicago in the first round
not a bad matchup for either team, would be interesting to see how vigneault matches up the lines against their top scorers
they did make a very good acquisition today getting Samuel Pahlsson, he will give us troubles im sure, one of the top checking forwards in the league, was very good in the ducks cup run a few years ago

the Blackhawks are also within reach.. It doesnt need to be some unbelievable losing streak, just a winless skid would do. You guys are seriously saying a quarter of the season isn't enough to make up a 8 point difference?
Also, I think if we take both points in the last meeting against Calgary, we'd get tie breaker based on more goals scored in head to head.
you're so pessimistic plus in recent memory, besides I think one year (either last year or the year before), the top 4 seeds in the East all advanced. Other years there has all been some upset of some form
I don't see the Canucks winning the division this season, though Chicago might be in reach. Honestly though, I don't see the Canucks getting past the second round. San Jose and Detroit are simply better than the Canucks. Either way, I'd be happy with the team in the playoffs regardless of what position since I thought the team would be around that 7th, 8th, 9th, 10th spot at the beginning of the season.
and plus, out of the 3 teams, cgy prob made the biggest splash yesterday (though partly b/c of some injuries in their lineup) and chicago also added pahlsson which is a very good addition imo
so those teams certainly arent getting worse id love to see it happen cause im a fan, but its just wishful thinking
and theres a difference between being objective vs. regurgitating what everyone else is spewing
Calgary made the biggest splash, yes. But I dont think their problem this year has been scoring goals. And yah.. Pahlsson... that Sundin signing sure is looking that much better now doesnt it =D
and theres a difference between being objective vs. regurgitating what everyone else is spewing
im just offering reasons on what im basing my opinion on, im not sure what your reasons are though.

well the thing is, they havent had 'that' many problems to begin with, hence their 3rd seed in the standings. granted they have had injuries of late and have a some bad defensive games recently; they have improved the overall skill/talent on the team by the addition of jokinen and leopold (how it translates to wins down the stretch remains to be seen, but i dont think their play will slip enough for us to catch them)
same type of argument can apply to chicago, adding talent to the roster without removing key pieces in their lineup
and i do realize our team as currently constructed is 'better' than our pt total in the standings from things like injuries/addition of sundin/improved play of a number of players/ and just better execution from the whole team in general
expecting teams ahead of us to slip so much that we can catch them after improving their rosters, i dont see the logic
Heres what each team did in their last 19, arguing your point. However since I have a presentation in a couple hours, I felt obligated to procrastinate
VAN: 25 in 19 CAL: 24 in 19 CHI: 23 in 19
DET: 26 in 19 SJ: 24 in 19
NASH: 25 in 19 EDM: 21 in 19 CLB: 22 in 19 ANA: 19 in 19 MIN: 18 in 19 DAL: 22 in 19
points in their last 19 games
So based on this, no one will catch anyone based on current standings/game in hand.
And arguing the other side, improving talent doesnt mean theres going to be any chemistry between Jokinen/Leopold and their new teammates Also I'm sure you've heard this too, Jokinen is a cancer with characteristic problems I've got nothing for Pahlsson, that guys friggin superglue
Plus, one more point is that Vancouver wasnt healthy for a long long time and is still only 8 back (of Calgary). Now as it stands, the Canucks are as healthy as they've been in a long time while Calgary is dealing with their injury problems right now (Bourque, Giordano, and someone else?) - and if you look at Bourque's production this year compared to Jokinen's, you'll see they did not exactly get much of a boost for the latter part of the season. *note 2, I have no idea how long the injured Flamers are out for
Looking at schedule, I think Vancouver has a slightly easier schedule than Calgary while the Blackhawks have a slightly easier schedule than Vancouver, so thats probably just a wash.
btw, I was alluding to their lukewarm defence with the whole, did not address their problem statement They're 19th in the league in goals against, and they let the leagues 22nd (or 8th worst) offense run up 8 against them, at home, and their solution to this was to go out and get - a puck moving defenseman and a top 6 forward?
Yes, their team got better on paper, they have an even more prolific offense, yay. But do you remember what happened when the Canucks had a prolific offense and a not so consistent goalie ala the West Coast Express/Dan Cloutier days?
btw the stats machine on nhl.com is fun another fun stat, Calgary is tied for 5th worst out of the 16 teams that are currently in a playoff spot in goals against, with Washington.
Vancouver has the 3rd worst (out of the 16) in PK%, behind Edmonton and -get this- Detroit

bieksa raymond 1st wouldnt be too bad a price imo

you're just basically hoping one of them plays less than 500 hockey and we somehow continue to play 600-700 hockey
if it happens great, but 5th and above and im happy with the regular season
barring any miracle from the 6th/7th/8th placed teams, IF we get past the first round as 3rd/4th/5th seed, still a match up against sj or det
plus in recent memory, besides I think one year (either last year or the year before), the top 4 seeds in the East all advanced. Other years there has all been some upset of some form

ticket price increase by 2% for next year
