30 hour famine

edited March 2009 in General
Just wondering if anyone is doing the 30 hour famine this weekend... I just decided to participate on monday and i'm slowly collecting donations. Just wondering if anyone did it before and if you have tips on how to last the 30 hours. This is my first year doing this event and i challenged myself that depending on how much i raise i might exceed the 30 hour requirement and try to go 48 hours to motivate people to help by making a donation.

I think it's a good cause and it'll be fun. Oh yeah if anyone on these forums want to help me out by making a donation let me know via message or by email at jyl34@sfu.ca. I attend the burnaby campus 5 days a week so we can meet up and i can collect the money by the end of this month.

Thanks and it'll be much appreciated.

I did 30hr famine back in high school and that whole experience was a total cake walk.

One of the best tricks there are is to eat a BIG meal right before the fundraiser. Preferably, the food should be loaded in calories, greasy and hard to digest. I had a huge plate of chicken chow mein. Depending on rule, you may or may not be allowed to drink. If drinking is allowed, try going for dairy products because milk make you feel bloated. Finally, there is this stupid trick I did that if you feel hungry, brush your teeth.

After the fundraiser ended, I didn't even want to eat until 6 hours later...

you collect donations on the pledge that you will starve yourself for 30 hours to get a "taste" of what its like living as a starving person in a third world country.

"Taste"? Yeah. Is this one of those "I like to experience what poverty and starvation is thingies"? What a farce. This is a spit in the face for people who have truly starved. The taste of poverty and starvation should be experienced first hand, otherwise, it's a gesture of pity. Similar to that International Studies course on "Poverty" for students who most likely never experienced an ounce of pain of what poverty is really like. Despicable.

Yes, forthright apologies for a ill-positioned rant. I had a bad lunch.

During the month of Ramadan Muslims only partially fast; that is, they don't eat or drink anything from dawn till sunset.

and yet u still have lil Muslim girls pass out in washrooms at SFU...
sometimes i think some beliefs need some serious 2nd thoughts
even one of my ex's passed out on the bus cuz she was fasting at which point i had enough and bitched at her cuz i really doubt god will deny u access to the all inclusive club because of your dietary choices
