  • edited February 2009
@nicole, very nice pics musta been nuts in the acc

looking forward to the game today, not sure what to expect, hopefully luongo plays well in front of frds/fam again
  • edited February 2009
well jaroslav halak simply was better than luongo that game but not to worry the nux will move on and make the playoffs.
  • edited February 2009
yeah couldnt bury the chances and halak made some great saves
burrows getting tossed early didnt help matters

creeping up to deadline day, starting to hear lots of 'rumblings' on the radio and what not about rumored deals

I'm paying more attention to Toronto for the trade deadline, they have a lot of changes to make and Burke is the guy to pull the big deals. Canucks, not so much...they have the depth, goaltending and defense going strong so I doubt they'll make any changes.

With Sundin assuming a leadership role the Canucks are a whole different team...they really needed him.

I don't really think Sundin has had that much impact on this team outside of the 3 games when the Demitra-Kesler-Sundin line was tearing it up. That's not to say he's been bad, but 2 points in his last 7 games with one of them being an assist into an empty net hardly counts as being an impact player. At least now he is getting scoring chances opposed to earlier in the season when he was floating and taking penalties. I'm sure he's chipping in with the leadership, but who really knows what goes on in the dressing room.

I think the biggest thing in the turnaround has simply been defensive scoring. Edler, Bieksa and Salo has really improved their defense and are booming them in from the point on the power plays.

At the deadline the Canucks could really use another top 6 forward and another defenseman. I'm not really sold on their depth at forward, their defense has decent depth at the moment but who knows when injuries are going to hit them again. What they really need though is another forward to play with the Sedin's. I love Burrows obviously, but I'm not exactly sold with him being a long term first liner. With that being said the Canucks don't have a lot of tradeable assets so I won't hold my breath that they can pick someone up. This is definitely not the draft to be trading away your first round pick.

As for Burke, we'll see how it goes. Its been a while since he has had to rebuild a team. The team he won the cup with in Anaheim was basically handed to him.

i wouldnt totally write off sundin as a bust or anything, i'll judge him on the team getting to the playoffs and how far the team goes
his production hasnt been top end, but i think hes starting to have an impact and things like face offs have improved with him in the lineup

and highly unlikely the canucks make a big splash
gillis has made it clear hes not willing to move his prospects/picks, and if its a straight up hockey deal we dont really have that much to offer anyways
  • edited March 2009
nice pick up of Vaananen on the blue line, either to pad our d depth or to free up possibility of trades

hard to tell what gillis has up his sleeve, read so many rumors but no pt speculating, just wait and see at this pt

a few big games comin up (arent they all?), cbj and min

minny game is last one b4 trade deadline
  • edited March 2009
    Any predictions for tonite?
  • edited March 2009
heh games over, good win, nice all around effort, putting 4pts between us and cbj now
  • edited March 2009
what the hell i just went to watch and it was already over LOL thought it was in vancouver for some reason..at least they won again :D next up minnesota
  • edited March 2009
Solid win by the Canucks and Burrows keeps giving us those clutch goals. On a totally different note, I was surprised to see Gerry Dobson at the intermission since he usually does soccer, guess they had no one else available.

it was in vancouver, just had a 5pm start for some reason.

sunday starts are scheduled @ 5 for some reason, otherwise its normally 7pm for home games

Heh, and Calgary lost to the Lightning (8-6!) Good night for us.
  • edited March 2009
lol iginla 5 points and the flames still lost to the lightning... We can still catch calgary or chicago for home ice advantage i think . GO NUCKS GO !
  • edited March 2009
It will take a minor miracle for Vancouver to catch Calgary or Chicago with only 20 games left. The Canucks have a game left against Calgary so I suppose their is some hope.

I said it earlier that defensive scoring is putting this team over the top and I love being right so it was great to see Edler and Salo scoring in back-to-back games. Edler has really picked up his game.

I loved that goal by Burrows last night. I don't think anyone in the building was expecting him to take the slap shot there when he is on a three on one with the Sedins. Its going to be interesting to see what he signs for.

I'm pretty interested to see where Ossi Vaananen will fit in as well. I think if Shane O'Brien starts getting himself back into penalty trouble again he could find himself in the lineup more often, especially in the playoffs. O'Brien has stayed out of the box for the most part lately though and it seems like he's out of the doghouse of Vigneault and Gillis for now

The Canucks aren't going to want to carry 9 defenseman and I imagine Lawrence Nycholat will probably end up being exposed to waivers because neither him or Davison have any trade value.

EDIT: Apparently I am slow and Nycholat was placed on waivers this morning. Thats what i get for going to class.

It'll be an interesting next few days!

The Burrows trade rumours are irking me...he's seems to be filling in the Mr. Clutch role amazingly well. Incredible how far he's come from 07!
  • edited March 2009
Nycholat has already been waived the last I heard
I wouldn't mind seeing SOB moved to be honest. He takes some of the stupidest penalties... Although if the last few years have taught us anything, I'd say we can never have enough quality NHL caliber D

    Shane O'Brien
  • edited March 2009
nycholat got picked up by the flames

game day today vs minny @ 7

starting to see some names hit the waiver wire Miro Satan, Gary Roberts, Brendan Morrison to name a few
  • edited March 2009
I wouldn't mind seeing the Canucks put a claim in for Satan or Morrison. I know they have struggled this year, but I'm not sure the Canucks can get better players through a trade and this way they don't have to give anyone up. They have the cap space so I figure it would be worth it. They could always gamble and hope these players will end up on re-entry waivers for half the price after the trade deadline too.
  • edited March 2009
Burrows signed a 4-year extension worth $2 million a year. Good deal, Burrows deserves every cent of it.
  • edited March 2009
good to lock in a guy who deserved the money
rare for the canucks to have a player come thru the system and lock him in long term

as for the waiver pickups, adding something for cap room cant really complain if it happens
but having said that, i dont think morrison is the kind of player we need

woo burrows just scored a beauty to make it 4-2

btw, Satan played tonight. I was under the impression that waived players do not count against the active roster count, hence meaning the tsn report that hes waived is wrong. Anyone know this issue better than I do?

    & yah SOB = Shane O'Brien

btw on Burrows, I hate to say this, but the minute he goes on some sort of extended scoring drought, the fans will turn on him and his 2mil/yr salary. The fans that "supports" this team have some of the shortest memories...

I got his jersey for Christmas 06 and I had so many people ask if he was a family member because "who the fuck would buy a Burrows jersey if you don't know him". Haha.

    Deadline day!!!
  • edited March 2009
wow, 06? He was still splitting time between the nucks and the moose back then wasnt he?
