Movie Review Thread

edited August 2009 in General
Seen any new movies lately? Post up some reviews here after you watch it so we know whats a "don't miss" and whats a "miss as much as possible"

Hmm...The Curious Case of Benjamin Button with Brad Pitt (woops) was an awesome movie. Kinda long, but really makes you think about your own life and whats really important. Make sure you watch it sooner or later on torrents or dvd, not sure if it's still in theaters.

One to definitely avoid is Revolutionary Road with Leo DiCaprio UGH what a crappy movie. It's set sometime in the early 1900s and Leo has a good (but boring) job at a newspaper. Basically he's unhappy with his wife so he cheats on her, then she cheats on him with his best friend and then she gets pregnant and kills herself...oh yea, and they fight throughout the whole movie. Not my idea of a good movie and it's nothing compared to Benjamin Button.

Next on my must watch list is SlumDog Millionaire, which has been getting lots of publicity since it won a Golden Globe...

Slumdog Millionaire is VERY, VERY good. Too lazy to write a review though... just watch it!!

btw, I think you meant Benjamin Button with Brad Pitt. That was an okay movie... I agree, it was way too long.

    Notorious

Good movie. Sort of your typical Rags to Riches

Benjamin Button was awesome! I loved it. But I do agree that it was waaaay too long. However, Brad Pitt actually looked GOOD in this movie. Great plot too.

Slumdog Millionaire was good too. Intense, and the cinematography was phenomenal. I wasn't really paying attention for like half of the movie though... got a little distracted. I loved Dev Patel's acting in Skins, and Slumdog was no exception.

I think BB was a crap movie.
    So long, SO boring.

I went to pee in the middle... came back... nothing happened.

    *yawn*

Good thing I didn't pay to see it in theatres.

    What's Slumdog Mil about?

LOL that's happened to me before too

I think Benjamin Button was pretty good, but it definitely coulda been shorter...the end kinda drags on.

I might watch The Wrestler this weekend so I'll let you know how it is. Although I'll probably like since Marissa Tomei is in it :)

Slumdog Millionaire's basically about an orphan boy who ends up winning a "Who wants to be a millionaire" contest in India. However, he gets arrested before he answers the last question. HOw does he know the answers?:

How did he come up with the answers?
    1. He is incredibly smart
    2. He is cheating
    3. He is incredibly lucky.

the interrogator asks him how he came up with all the answers, since he is an orphan and riff raff.

He then begins to recount his tale and how every answer to the questions, he got from a certain episode in his life. The movie is based on the book Q&A.

Dang, I want to watch Valkyrie and Notorious.

    Paul Blart - Mall Cop
*not nearly as funny as the trailer
    *hardly funny

    Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist
    *cute date movie
    *not too bad

    Body of Lies
    *surprisingly captivating

Transporter 3: something something I dont know what
    *chick is hot
    *"you are the gay"

Underworld 3: Rise of the Lycans
*I mistook Rhona Mitra for Kate Beckinsale the entire movie until the end, and was like.. wait a minute
*Pretty much the same as the previous 2 sans the fast cars

    Click
*Just to make up for Kate Beckinsale (shes super hot btw)
*Much better comedy/drama than Mall Cop

    Will be watching soon:
Burn After Reading. Have heard mix reviews. Wait for my review for my opinion is the only one that matters as I am the undisputed best movie rater on the face of this planet

oh yah, Slumdog millionaire, felt it was over hyped. Play on emotions, 3rd world country and their challenges, blah blah blah. Wasn't bad, but wasn't exactly captivating either.

lol me too... I finished my bubble tea before Brad Pitt was middle-aged... damn it took him way too long to grow young.

I absolutely LOVED Slumdog Millionaire, I can't see how anyone could not enjoy it... but maybe it was because I didn't hear anything about it before I watched it (I'm oblivious to the movie world), so I had no expectations. I thought the Dark Knight was over-hyped and not that great.

Do you people have ADD for not being able to sit through a 3 hour movie? Reminds me of people who dooze off in 1 hour lectures.

i thought it was kate beckinsale too when i saw the rise of the lycans trailer.. underworld was one of the better vamp series that actually caught my interest (hollywood literally killed anne rice's vampire chronicles) so i had to watch it.. wasn't all that interesting.. but it offered some closure/insight..=)

Dark Knight was a bit of a disappointment.. i thought there was gonna be some hardcore psychological thrill factor but the movie just didn't do it for me..

i don't mind sitting for 3 hours if the movie has an interesting plot.. in fact i haven't seen one for quite a while..

    Punisher: War Zone

I finally got around to watch this movie and it meet my expectation. The Punisher in this movie, played by Ray Stevenson, is very faithful to the comic (san the trench coat and tactical gears) and Ray Stevenson delivers a good performance. The movie is fast, bloody, intense, and fun to watch.

I finally watched Slumdog last night and I must say I enjoyed it. It was funny, touching, suspenseful, cruel but most of all...it was an accurate depiction of that area of the world. Being Punjabi, I've been to India several times and seen the poverty of the slums for real but I've never stopped to think about the hardships they deal with on a day to day basis. So at the very least, I'm glad the director Danny Boyle kept things so real and shared a world which most people would never otherwise experience. It's a grounding experience to say the least...reminded me a lot of the movie "City of God"

As a side note I think Frieda Pinto is beautiful and I hope she does well in Hollywood. My favorite part was when Dev Patel's character decides to use his "call a friend" lifeline and it turns out to be Frieda (his destiny is to be with her) that answers. Amazing movie, and very well made glad it got recognized.

so i'm just watching the intro to 007 quantum of solstice and wondering how the fuck a alfa romeo is keeping up with a dbs
  • edited March 2009
best intro i've seen in a movie is transformers 2007. that quiet moment when the chopper (i don't know the name cause i'm not really a fan and i'm too lazy to research) surfaced in the middle of the desert military base, transformed plus the sound effects and all that, and started firing at everything. i orgasmed and it was fucken awesome.

The name of that Transformer is called Blackout. He is a Decepticon and his alternate mode is a MH-53 Helicopter.
