The Rants Thread

edited March 2009 in General
I don't know if there's already a thread for this. If there is, you can delete this one.

You can probably tell what this thread is supposed to be for, so rant away.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

I'll start. Why is it that family members decide to get married during the two weeks of finals, and expect you to be able to magically make it to every prewedding/wedding/postwedding event. Its bloody impossible when you have 20 page papers to get done. I know its still a month away, but I can already hear the bitching about me acting like i'm 'too good for the family' to show up. Flippin bullshit.

Last time I had to go to an annoying wedding I just brought my work with me.

Once you get to the reception you can just sit at the table for hours and write or read.

^Totally do what Randomuser do and take your work to the wedding. You are lucky you don't have to fly to the other side of Canada just to attend this wedding.

These weddings you all go to must be boring if you take your homework with you and decide to be antisocial!

Just to clarify, none of them are your cousins, right? All the weddings I have attended so far are family member's wedding and thus most of the people who attended are families...

I would like to rant about the washrooms in Blusson Hall. First of all, there are no doors and the washrooms are really small. Plus there's only a short "hallway" to the washrooms. So while I was in the men's room doing my business I could hear, very clearly, a girl peeing in the women's washroom. I find it a bit unsettling that everybody can hear what's going on, but then I thought, "okay, that sucks, but at least you can't hear it outside".

Wrong. I was walking by the washrooms one day, and could clearly hear that somebody was having some digestive problems. So yeah guys and gals. The next time you're doing your dirty work in the washrooms at Blusson, just remember that people are listening in.

I walked into the guys by accident the other day, the corridor is confusing at first

I hate the automatic toilets/sinks/towel dispensers.

The toilets flush the second it senses you've stood up, so if you lean forward too much on the can the thing flushes whether you're finished or not.

The sinks never run for long enough, and the paper towel dispensers refuse to give me more than a few inches of paper per wave.

Have you tried turning the power up? There are controls for this; it's probably just set low.

I hate when you get to the cash register and as soon as you put your items on the conveyor belt the person in front of you places that bar to segregate your items as if they are paranoid they might end up paying for what you bought.
  • edited March 2009
lol i always do that, out of courtesy though, cuz the ppl behind me usually look like there itching to get at the bar

When I was a cashier, I wouldn't say it annoyed me when people didn't do it, but it annoyed me when people got pissed off when their order and the person behind themselves got mixed up.

I once had this guy space out so long that I had rang up his, and the woman behind his order, and he paid for both until he realized what he had done.

You're usually in a better position to reach than they are. It's awkward for them to reach over your stuff.

I had to wait HALF AN HOUR to print out one black and white word document at the SFSS today. I was the second person in line, too!

    So frustrating.

Why don't you just print in the library or one of the labs in the AQ? Or is it really cheap there or something?

Maybe you lined up behind the person who's in charge of printing the Peak papers for this week.

    That happened to me once

No, it was some girl printing out overhead projector presentation stuff. Someone unplugged something and the two people were arguing with one another and throwing a fit. They acted like arguing siblings! I had to stand there watching as they argued who unplugged what.

I'm going to try Cornerstone next time I need to print something.

well im not using it as modem, actually using it as a bridge... was hoping to extend the range of my wifi network but it dosnt look like its up to the task haha
tho its handling itself quite nicely as a switch
the strange thing is when i left it up to its own settings the wifi worked fine but the lan was sketchy as shit so i setup all the ip's and subnets manually and the lan is now perfectly fine but the wifi went to shit

    edit: issue fixed
