deadline to drop classes?

edited February 2009 in General
can you drop a class anytime during the semester? or does it just count as a fail past a certain date?

dude you missed the bus on that one.
if you drop it now, you will get a WD on your transcript

is a WD a big deal? thing is im on AP.. I need a B+ average in my 4 classes right now and i dont think i will have an issue doing that with 3 of my classes but one of them im really not sure
i dont want this one class be the one that gets me kicked out

There are differing opinions on this. I personally think a WD is bad. Others disagree. In your situation, I think its the lesser of two evils. Talk to an adviser before you do anything.

so the answer is theres no deadline? just a WD on transcript?

There's a deadline if you want your money back.
    There's a deadline if you don't want a WD.
    Otherwise no.

ok so i can pretty much drop the course right before the final if i feel like it will get me kicked out

isnt the easiest way to get off AP pretty much take one course and ace it which would in theory bring your gpa abbove 2.0? or is there a min # of courses u need to take to be re-evaluated?

well if you decide to drop the course before the final.. you're obviously going to need to get department approval for that.. and from what i've heard... they're going to question why you didn't drop this at an earlier date.. usually this doesn't sit well with them...

you can technically take just one course.. but that's assuming you'll ace it for sure.. and complications do arise when they feel like it so personally, I wouldn't put all eggs in one basket.. also don't forget that your grade point is divided by the number of credits for that course.. hence there's a minimum grade you need to get for a particular course before it starts hurting your GPA on top of being AP...

    good luck on that..

use the gpa calculator to figure this stuff out. I wish you luck. I hate hearing about people getting kicked out (unless they deserve it)

After Feb 6th you missed your date to drop using the SIS with a WD listed. Now you have to apply to drop under extenuating circumstances.

well, if your semester gpa will be over 2.00, you will not be kicked out, you will remain on AP
  • edited February 2009
so if i get above 2.0 for all my courses this semester I will remain on AP but still will be @ sfu not required to withdraw?
    can you confirm this

wow if thats true im actually so fucking happy...!
  • edited February 2009
yup true just don't get lower than 2.0
  • edited February 2009
the trick is... to have either your GPA or CGPA above 2.0... you don't need both to be above 2.0 to stay in SFU... just one of them is fine.. you'll just be on AP until you get both of them above 2.0

but what if my gpa is 3.8?
  • edited February 2009
Then you definitely need to be worried.
