Arts Central

edited January 2009 in General
I do not know if you all know about this, but just recently Art Central opened in the AQ across from the Images Theatre.

They have a bunch of chairs and tables and academic advisors in there. They want to focus that room on academic advising.

In my LEAD SFU project we are supposed to help them find out about this room and I was hoping you all could answer a few questions for me.

1) What is your year and major?
2) What would you like to see in this art central? Both physically and as services.
3) Did you go to any of the arts week events? If so, what else would you like to see in arts week?
4) Have you ever been to an Academic Advisor (AA)? If so, how many times, and would you see yourself using the AAs in art central?

Thanks

And if you reply to this thread, please don't be a douche and just say "LOL ARTS!" because I will hit you with the ban stick... or a real stick... we will see.

    I notice.

I really want to figure out how to apply for a job there. Afterall, I am pretty much TalkSFU's unofficial academic advisor...

Third Year History and Humanities Double Major
    2) What would you like to see in this art central? Both physically and as services.
I hope that this art central offer some workshops for prospective students and current students in choosing their program and dealing with the WQB thing. They should work to get as many people to declare their major by the end of their first year.
    3) Did you go to any of the arts week events? If so, what else would you like to see in arts week?
No, I have not even used any service from Art Central.
    4) Have you ever been to an Academic Advisor (AA)? If so, how many times, and would you see yourself using the AAs in art central?
Yes, I have visited my History and Humanities academic advisors many time. However, since I am a declared major and I know what the hell am I doing, I don't see myself using AAs in art central.

I think that's a really good idea for first years. Having an AA that is highly visible to first years (majority of first year classes take place in images) will influence them to come in and check it out and ask questions. Whereas regular Academic Advising is out of the way and no one really goes there unless theres a specific reason. AA by Images will help give new students the guidance they need early in their education so that they can set goals and know which classes to take.
