FS: Asus M3A + Athlon64 X2 4600+

edited January 2009 in Buy & Sell
$130.00 OBO.

Am selling since I replaced this with a DFI LanParty + A64 X2 5000+.

Fired this up today, ran a memtest on it, it works. Was running Vista prior to being decommissioned.

Am assembling this into a case if anyone wants to see it operational before they buy it.

(Geez, yer a tough crowd  :teeth: )

I would if I weren't fighting off my urge to build another system. :P

Well, if I withdraw this I may sell a Pentium D 805 instead and throw in some RAM.

What's that DFI board got special anyway? I've seen it around a couple times with some good reviews.

Well, it's pretty beefy, and I specifically picked it because it won't have issues with the A64 X2 6x00+ CPUs or the Phenoms. So many of the low-end AM2-only boards (in particular all the Asus M2* series, and even some of the 780G-based M3* boards) have all kinds of wonkiness with Phenoms and 6x00+ CPUs - erratic performance in gaming, boards dying quickly, etc - basically traceable to nominal but not actual capability of supplying the voltage (and thus the wattage) to those CPUs.

PLUS! the DFI board I got? It'll take Phenom IIs. :teeth: :teeth:

Hmm.. interesting. You learn something new everyday.

I thought the M3A79 and M3A78 both took Phenom IIs as well though? (RAWRRRR DRAGONNNN! lol!!)

Edit: Wow I thought the highest X2 they released was the 6000+.. turns out they released a 6400+ as well. Crazy.

You'd better google and check that the BIOSes being issued will have good support for 'em. I've heard of a guy who already has dealt with teething problems that his mobo had with a Phenom II.
