Experiences with Course Friendships
What is everyones experiences with making friends in classes?
For me I personally find usually on day one I'll know whether or not I'll get along with anyone, or if we'll end up being class friends or more. (This only applies to Seminars and Tutorials)
Seems like this semester isn't going to be too promising, except I think I know one guy in one of my classes, I just need to steal someones seat so I can sit next to him since by the time he walked in both seats beside me were taken.

in comp sci i've been having classes with generally the same people every semester.. so no real opportunity to meet new people as often
while in my cmpt110 class its a new fishing game :)
For one thing, I take a lot of CompSci classes, which are full of .. uh.. CompSci people. CS students are usually pretty introverted and like to keep to themselves. Besides, I already know more than my fair share of CompSci people.
I've never made friends with anyone in large non-CS lectures either (PSYC 100, PHYS 101). People sit in different seats and skip lecture a lot, so you're rarely sitting near the same people as the class before. Another thing is that these courses don't offer much in terms of tutorials or small group work, so it's difficult to get to know people.
I took a small 20-person Phil course last spring and that had a pretty friendly atmosphere, but I don't think anyone actually "made friends".
I'm definitely interested to see other people's responses on this. Do people generally want to make friends in classes? I know I do, but it seems like everyone else is content to mind their own business.
and only one is from a tutorial
we hang out a lot cuz most of us live (or lived) in richmond
easier to hang out than to see each other at school
I've also made friends with several teachers, but that may have to do with me being closer in age to them (or older than them) than to most students!
Phil
haha
i've made quite a few friends in comp sci lectures
its quite easy to find things we all agree on that suck about the class or prof :P makes for great discussions
on the other hand i havent really made friends outside of cmpt classes
for example in my geog class ... i swear i do not have the slightest idea how people that uneducated made it into university
english classes i found had a bunch of snobby people so again didnt really keep in touch with the people i met there
etc..
Clubs are another great way to make friends. I've met quite a few last semester from just one club.
Like Flora said, only the head nod or hi in the hallway friends.
I've made friend friends in clubs though, so *shrugs*
Tutorials and stuff are definitely better though, it's at least easier to talk and stuff. Like someone posted above, it's also hard to find friends in lectures because of people sitting in different spots all the time.
unfortunately i rarely have interest in getting to know ppl in my major LOL
especially in tutorial.. every1 comes off as such a try hard, and every1 tries to get buddy buddy with eachother... not my thing
You guys should battle.
I wonder why she even asked me, she had two other friends sitting next to her.
One of the labs requires you to grab other peoples fat and skin and measure it, which pretty much means you have to interact with other people lol
however i do have two crews i met from sfu that we regularly go out with.
