Paid My Tuition

edited January 2009 in General
So I paid my tuition on tuesday... in pure cash.

Funnily enough, the bank was the one that was shitting brix when I requested to withdrawal $3,200 and the man behind the desk at MBC didn't even seem fazed.

It was probably the most fastest way I have ever paid off all my student fees.

I am very glad that this non-credit card payment method worked out well for you.

banks order a certain amount of cash per week so when you decide to withdraw that amount they're usually shitting bricks because they're wondering if they'll have enough till the next order.

mbc doesnt seem to care because people pay in cash often.

    nice pic though.

hahaha my bank (TD) shat bricks when i asked for a 20,000$ cash withdraw
after the usual interrogation and telling me not to take out that much cash they agreed to let me take my own money but it took them 3business days to get it

Wow, I never knew this until now! I am pretty clueness when it comes to banking and finance. So real life banks are not like the bank that Joker robbed in The Dark Knight where they have $60 million dollars in the vault and ran by a shotgun wielding manager?

Paying in cash is quite convenient, assuming you feel comfortable carrying around a huge quantity of cash around. It is also impossible to trace too!

some banks will keep a reserve i believe in the range of 10 million. i think this is only central/main branches which hold this kind of reserve. i could imagine big banks like chase manhatten holding 60 mil in cash. who knows? but in canada you have to call the bank ahead of time when you want to make a withdrawl of cash over 1000 i believe. so they can order the money and make arrangements for you to take it.

and ya, paying cash is nice. cept if you get mugged then theres no insurance :P

Pffft. You should have paid in loonies contained within a sack featuring a money sign on it.

    Nice work, JayDub :)

Me, I'm just gonna bring them a check, as I usually do, and leave it at that. :teeth:

Oh my God, you weren't kidding! I'm surprised you didn't get mugged.

I paid mine today too! In cheque form.

Last semester when the stopped letting students pay tuition with credit cards my brother's friend at UVIC paid with pennies. He literally rolled in a wheelbarrow filled with the exact amount he owed in pennies.

I don't understand why peoples panties are so in a knot about this.

The University had massive budget cuts...by taking credit card payments they give up a small % of that money to the credit card companies.

It's really not that hard to pay by cheque or online banking...

Most people get a small % back for using their credit cards, so its mainly a self interest thing.

I am not too sure, but is it Air Mile? I think one of our forumer once said that one semester's tuition can redeem them 3000 points or something.
  • edited January 2009
Yeah usually the incentive to use a credit card to pay tuition is for both the reasons above--the Air Miles and the % back at the end of the year.
  • edited January 2009
do most of you pay your own tuition?

i liked how you used chase manhattan as an example hiking.. =P

but yeah to avoid them shitting brix on you next time.. you should give them a courtesy call and let them know when you'll be needing it..=)

do you actually get cash back using your credit card to pay for tuition? i thought it was excluded when you pay for fees and bills... that's why i didn't bother paying with my cash back visa.. =S

Hmm.. come to think of it I'm not so sure anymore. IIRC, the rewards are only applicable for "retail transactions", but I guess that's wherever you pay by swiping, perhaps? Were credit card transactions for tuition made in-person or online? Perhaps not the cash back, but Air Miles for sure.. someone else confirm, haha.

Isn't that apparently illegal? Like you can't pay for something with more than 25 or 50 pennies?
