Finding Journals

edited January 2009 in General
Is there an easy way of finding journals? For examples this one:
Dedouit F., Guilbeau-Frugier C., Telmon M.D., Joffre F. & Rouge D.
2008 Virtual autopsy and forensic anthropology of a mummified fetus: a rport of one case. Journal of Forensic Sciences 53: 208-212
Now I know I could go onto the SFU library journal search engines and type in random keywords of the title and then try and find that journal.

But isn't there an easier way to find it? I mean I know which journal it is in, which issue and on which pages. Isn't there a way to search by these parameters?

I go here to search: http://troy.lib.sfu.ca/search/s
Search the title, found the online database: http://troy.lib.sfu.ca/search~S1?/sjournal++of+forensic+science/sjournal+of+forensic+science/1%2C1%2C3%2CB/frameset&FF=sjournal+of+forensic+sciences&3%2C%2C3/indexsort=-

    Rest is pretty self explanatory.

But I found it for you anyways :)

Thanks but I am not trying to find that specific journal, that was just an example of a journal I could want to find.

Is there no journal search engine where I can be like, "give me Journal of Forensic Sciences 53"?

In the physical sciences we have things like PROLA, which can be used to punch in a journal name, volume and page number. I don't know what the equivalent is in the social sciences, though.

The library website has tons of journal databases online.

    Start here: http://troy.lib.sfu.ca/

(you already know that, but for those who don't).

Also, you can browse by subject by going to:

    http://cufts2.lib.sfu.ca/CRDB/BVAS/

This page will also let you search many databases at once, which may be what you are looking for.

google scholar is the easiest, just put in the title of the article your looking for. but to access all the journals available to sfu you have to go to it through the sfu library website

I just gave you the link?
You search the journal title. It takes you to the link of the journal.

ETA: the 53 is the volume number within the journal. *now i'm confused at what you're asking*

Google Scholar is probably the closest thing to what you described, but you need subscriptions to many of the journals that it searches.

The "interdisciplinary journal search" from the SFU Library website is probably your best bet.

I find that the library website is the best resource for research... if you need a subscription for an academic journal, the school most likely has it.
