IAT Classes

edited January 2009 in General
I'm in two IAT classes this semester and they both require lots of programs, such as Photoshop, Indesign, Illustrator. I have Photoshop already, but I don't have all the other stuff. I already have some projects due in Week 2, but I don't have the programs to do it at home! I don't have time to go to Surrey to do them. Do they expect me to buy the programs myself? 'Cause they cost a LOT and I'm not planning on taking any IAT classes in the future. I tried downloading them off Limewire, but all I've gotten so far are Trojan horses.

Can't you do them in any computer lab...? Might wanna check that out.

I think its an expectation, I have a class thats forcing me to either outright buy a program or go to campus to use the program as well.

Thanks, I'm trying to download some programs now... but there's so few seeders it's going to take a long, long, long time...

I don't have time to go do them in the Surrey labs since I only have Monday mornings in Surrey and then a Burnaby class in the afternon. And on Tuesdays, I'm in Surrey but I have classes the whole day - no time to go to the labs to do projects.

Do they have Indesign and Illustrator in Burnaby computer labs? I would doubt that they would because, to my knowledge, all the designing courses (IAT) is in Surrey....

Don't have time... or are too lazy to go?

What about Monday after class in Burnaby, or at the Burnaby campus?

    OR Tuesday after class?

The Surrey campus, as far as I have heard, doesn't close.

Plus you have Wednesday, Thursdays, Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Classes aren't on Saturday and Sunday, unless you are taking a J100 class, so you have two full days to go to Surrey.

I don't think it makes a difference, maybe they don't, but I would still find out before you buy anything.

    Busy.

Does the Burnaby campus have the programs on the computers? I've never even been into any of the computer labs at both Burnaby and Surrey. I've only used the computers at the library in burnaby and they don't have the programs. I also need to print the project out.

Does the Surrey campus really not close? I remember trying to leave at the end of my last class on Tuesday and all the doors were locked - I was locked in. I had to get someone from security to get me out.

Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, I had Burnaby classes. I was busy all weekend and I couldn't even begin to get stared on my project until i posted this thread. The project is due on Tuesda.

Does anyone know what computer lab in Surrey or Burnaby has InDesign and a printer? Because even if I find a computer that has InDesign but no printer, I can't print it out because I wouldn't be able to open the file on other computers.

I just tried it and I couldn't log in. I'm not a computer science student if that makes a difference?

That'll probably take a whole semester, or perhaps 5 years. One of my prof couldn't even get them to install a program because they're too lazy dicking around.

Just get it off pirate bay. It'll be easier anyways.

What do you mean no remote desktop for Surrey, I meant to ask them whether or not they have the programs you need installed on their computers at Burnaby. Or did you already ask that? If so it appears youre shit out of luck unless you pirate.

I was going to suggest re-installing it after 30 days. Seriously, with all these hassel, I would just drop the accursed course. There is one opening right now for HUM 130 DE, interested?

I was responding to enosun when I was talking about the remote desktop thing.
I asked about the programs in Burnaby, and they are only on "very, very, very selected computers at Burnaby" (I'm quoting the guy I asked).

I'm sure you can't do that... but I heard if you change the date back on your computer, you can keep it or something. I was seriously considering dropping this course yesterday. I was going crazy trying to find the program.

    I found a keygen
I had to go through a bunch of torrent through the pirate bay, but I finally got it, phew. Hopefully I can get the other programs.

Sorry Student & co. I won't be joining you in HUM 130 DE, good luck with it though! I'll try and take it next semester.

Alright, good luck with your IAT courses. By the way, have you talked to your professors regarding this problem?

I've talked to my IAT 100 teacher and he said that I could use the labs at Surrey. He also said that he doesn't think there is a remote desktop option for Surrey computers. I have to get a key card and all that, but I'm hearing mixed rumours of having to pay $15 for a keycard? I'll have to ask Surrey security myself about this.

It'll be hard for me to schedule my time around going to Surrey campus... I'll have to try and find Burnaby computers with the programs as well. It really sucks out my creative flow jumping from place to place and being scrapped for time to do my projects. Hopefully these IAT intro courses don't demand too much of me!

On a more serious note, do you have to use Photoshop? Can you use The Gimp (free)?

Yes, you do. I think the whol term for IAT 100, we're learning photoshop. In the last two classes all we did was use photoshop.
