What kind of phone does everyone have? I know this may be more related to the tech forum by nature but it'll get no views down there, and its more of a general question.

I still have my Motorola Razr V3 from years ago.

My 3 year contract is about to come to an end and I'm wondering what kind of smart phone I should get.

    I have this pretty old, black Samsung clamshell with just enough weight that I can hold the back and flip it open as I bring the phone up to my ear.

    Yeah, I'm cool like that. (and who needs a smart phone when you can look like Jack Bauer?)

    Same phone and situation as randomuser... wondering what I'm gonna do when the contract ends... probably switch to Rogers or Fido.

    I have several phones, but my primary phone right now is the iPhone. Still give it my highest recommendation, despite all the hate towards it. As a multi-function phone, it's great. And no mobile browser has yet to match Safari on the iPhone.

    I don't have many recommendations for phones, but I can definitely tell you what NOT to get, from my own personal experience. HTC Touch Diamond is a pile of crap, unless you get the overseas version, and even still, it's not that great. In fact, I'd stay away from HTC products in general. I was never a big fan, and I found them to be laggy and unresponsive. Blackberry Storm is quite garbage, you're better off with the Curve or the Bold.

    As a TELUS employee, I'd definitely recommend that you go with Rogers at the moment, they just have a better selection of phones. I personally find the EvDO network (TELUS) to be more reliable in terms of staying connected and consistent speed, but if you want a nicer phone, Rogers is the way to go. If you can hold out for an extra year though, I'd suggest you do that, since Bell and TELUS are going LTE (4G) in a year or so, Rogers won't have the monopoly on GSM worldphones anymore, so you might have a little more leverage in terms of negotiations, or possibly more choices in deciding which company to go with, if global roaming is even a minute factor.

    i used it for less than 6 months,
    had to get it fixed cuz it wont turn on
    got it back and it worked for about 2 days
    then keeps turning off by itself
    now i cant put the phone on vibrate because that would cause my phone to shut off

    in fact
    DONT GET ANY SONY ERICSSON PHONES

    i know at LEAST 5 people that use different models
    and they all have issues with them
    either keys are broken,
    cant type certain buttons when texting
    screen would freeze
    or same problem as me

    ...and I'm with Telus.

    I just had a problem with the chrome (minimal) but it was still under warrenty so Telus sent the phone in. But overall, I'm happy.

    Wait another year....ackkkkk, I need a nice phone soon.

    I'm just wondering, because I know the closer I get to the renewal date, the better offers they will give me (so free phone with some kind of resign deal) I think my contract actually expires in November, maybe I could wait that long since I just had to buy another battery for my RAZR.

    Do you think there would be any incentive for me to stay with telus in terms of renegotiation deals, or just flip to Rogers as a new client?

    Anecdotal Evidence. All my SE phones have been optimal.

    I recently switched from my Nokia N82 to the SE G900.

    I like them both.
    N82 has a better quality camera, though both 5MP. (always the sitch for Nokias, AWESOME cameras)
    G900 is dual touchscreen and buttons so very handy.

    I have a w810i as well. One of the most sturdy phones I've ever had. Even dropped it in a puddle once, and still works fine. In fact, all of the Sony Ericsson phones I've had were good.

    Well, you need to remember, when you're renegotiating with TELUS, your tenure as a client will be taken into account. For the most part, if you're nearing the end of your contract, you have a lot of leverage in terms of getting a much better plan, free features, better deal on a phone, etc. You just need to know how to go about negotiating. One thing to always bring up is that "so-and-so carrier" is offering you this phone for free, and giving you this plan with these features for free. Even if it's not true, just try it out, you'd be surprised what the L&R reps are willing to shell out to keep you as a client. I've seen some amazing deals given out to clients that haven't even been with the company for that long.

    If you choose to switch to Rogers by just walking into a store and getting a phone there, don't expect to get a good deal on a plan or any free features. That's just something they can't offer you. If anything, you can try calling into their customer service line and speaking directly to their sales department, saying that you're looking to port from TELUS. Sometimes they'll give you enough incentive to leave, othertimes they'll just offer you the same stuff as the store.

    I'll have been with telus 6 years upon the expiry of this contract, so if they really can't offer me something the others are I'm switching, and I'll use that as one of my selling points, but thanks I'll do my research and see whos offering what as a base point. All I heard is saying "so and so i know whos on telus has _____" doesn't work well.

    ive only owned 4 phones in my entire life
    nokia 5110 (still have this brick somewhere)
    nokia 6100 (stolen)
    comwise d121 (picked this up from HK for 100$ proving u can get a ton of features for cheap)
    apple iphone (paid 300$ new from the US)

    ive always been on prepaid and spent at most 20$ a month on minutes
    so u can say i was spoiled or i saved 40+$ a month not paying for a plan...

    maybe bad luck for me and my.. 7 other friends that dont like using SE

    i had never dropped my phone while using it
    i just text and talk on the phone alot but i dont think thats the problem

    just starting to use my sisters old phone

    I'm with Telus, so naturally our crippled CDMA phones are nothing to compare with GSM phones.. but whatever :P
