Connecting to SFUNET-SECURE using Wicd under Ubuntu 8.04

edited January 2009 in General
Has anyone figured out how to do as the title says? I want to be able to do it under Network Manager or Wicd in Ubuntu. I have Wicd installed and configured properly but still not able to connect. The same configuration works using terminal commands though. So I'm scratching my head.

I haven't actually tried this, but I think it should work.

Make a Wicd template for SFUNET-SECURE like this person does and fill in the relevant information.

Weren't you asking about this over on the CSSS forums a while ago?

um give your laptop to the people at the tech desk in the AQ, they should do it for you maybe?

    I doubt it.

Most of them don't know much about Linux and wouldn't be able to help. The last time I went there to ask them about connection issues, they told me they couldn't provide any assistance because they don't support Linux. (Turns out they put a ban on my MAC address... which I easily bypassed)

I believe this is officially true as well. Really, if you can't be bothered to Google and read docs, perhaps linux is not the OS for you. Then again, I run Slackware, so my expectations are a little different than most.

I have tried this template. But it still will not connect. The wicd log file has the following:

    Connecting to wireless network SFUNET-SECURE
    Putting interface down
    Releasing DHCP leases...
    Setting false IP...
Stopping wpa_supplicant and any DHCP clients
    Flushing the routing table...
    Attempting to authenticate...
    Putting interface up...
    exiting connection thread

Can anyone find where the problem is? I followed the template exactly.

Yes, I posted on the CSSS forums but I did not get any answer back. So I thought I'll try it here.

I went back and installed Network Manager and removed Wicd. Now I am able to connect to SFUNET-SECURE and eduroam. Strange that Network Manager did not work for me before. Now I'm happy.
