Please Advice....
Hello,
Since I came to SFU, I have not had difficult time with any of my instructors. But it seems this semester, a little embarrassment and discouragement would be inevitable from one of annoying and hardcore profs I ever come across. I took one class with him last semester and the likelihood of seeing him again in a class was unavoidable since he is the only prof who was teaching that course since its inception (I think).
To be honest, I am not that student who asks lots of questions in class and I am academically strong with a very good GPA (3.57).
Generally, I always go to class prepared, energetic and very enthusiastic about the material. But when I try to ask him a question while the class is in session, you can easily tell from his face that he feels a little bit disappointed and bombards me with several irrelevant material to the course like you are not prepared for the course. And the most annoying thing he said to me was and I quote "you were lucky enough to pass the previous course" ( I got a B+ in the course he is referring to). I really felt bad when I heard that from a prof that is trying to dishearten and ruin my academic progress. I am really sad about this guy and I don't know what to do.
In addition, I was thinking of postponing the course to fall 2009 but still the same guy will teach again. I won't even get access to other courses without doing this course. It is a prerequisite to so many courses that are required in my major.
For now, I may not disclose the prof or the course but I highly appreciate your contribution to the solution of this problem.
Please..please advice.
Thank you.

Frankly, if you don't provide us an example of what you ask it's hard to assess the fairness of what you're saying.
You can go complain to the department head mid way through the semester -- but don't expect this to help you, as more make the teacher even more annoyed at you.
You could even appeal your grade after the course, not that it will do you any good.
What is it that you are exactly asking? From what it sounds like, you're asking questions that are missing the point, and hes trying to tell you what you should be seeing.
Anyways, thank you Rand.
do u feel u could have done better without his remarks? just ignore them
u can always write down all ur questions and ask ur TA
Something like, "Shut the fuck up and put your hand down, noone cares."
Are you asking questions in a large lecture room, or a seminar room...?
I think part of getting through school is dealing with people like this as well, I got docked 5% overall by a teacher who claimed I did something she told me not to do in a prior assignment, when she didn't say anything of the sort.
It is a kinda seminar room. Anyways, I am in university to meet academic challenges not personality complexities that try to destroy my days with anguish.
Don't let one prof spoil the rest of your academic experience. All of the profs I've had highly encourages us to ask questions and often students would get engaged in discussions during a lecture (which the prof loves).
As suggested, your best solution is probably the TA. Most TAs are students as well and it'll probably be more comfortable for you anyways.
Big up to Nukechem and the rest of my talksfu buddies.
Much appreciated!!
and we dont become buddies with strangers
Be a reasonable chap!

I came in the lab and found nobody. Then, I tried to ask the lab technician some questions:
Hope: Hello, I was wondering if you would let me see my lab report marks?
Lab tech: well, can you look for your TA so that he can sort out the lab
reports and give yours.
(I went to see the TA and want to ask him whether the lab reports were marked. However, my TA was not in the lab but another TA told me that the reports are marked and students can see their marks.)
Hope: Lab tech, the TA said that the reports are marked and students can
see their marks.
Lab tech: ok, I think there are some reports in this box and I don't know if you can see them for yourself.
Hope: I think these yellow papers look like the reports we wrote. Can I see them?
Lab tech: Go ahead.
(The prof comes in.)
Prof: Get out. Get Out ( he repeated several times). If you wana something stand outside of the dispensary and ask me outside.
(I was shocked. I didn't know what to say. The lab technician let me in and told me to see the lab reports.)
Hope: Ok, I am asking you now then. (I said innocently).
(The prof whispered to the lab technicians and they were sympathetically staring me. I could read from their eyes how they sympathized with me because the prof spoke so rude to me).
Prof: Did you find you report?
Hope: No.
Prof: What is your name?
Hope: I said x y z.
(He handed it to me and walked away. The lab technicians were still staring and they seemed dumbfounded. I saw my marks then left the lab.)
This is just one episode that portrays how rude this prof is, especially to me.
What can you conclude from here guys? Let me hear from you.
lab prof told u to get out of a place he was in charge of
asked u for name, and gave u the report
these ppl arent your friends
Its only curiousity to want to see your marks, but maybe youre being a bit too keen about it :P
