Girls! Where to get good boots?

edited January 2009 in General
So I'm looking at the SFU webcams and I think that it's time for me to invest in some good boots so I'm not slipping all over campus. Preferably I want something that goes well with jeans has good errr grip on snow yet still looks fashionable. At first I thought of checking out Aldo but I'm gonna take a quick guess and say that most of their boots can't deal with snow?

Anyhow, thanks in advance for any replies :) !

No uggs please. God those are fucking lame.

Fashion or function. Pick one. Besides, the market saturation of the style is almost complete, boots will be unfashionably obsolete by next year.

^I don't care what you say, I love my UGGs!

vaka, you might be able to find some decent-looking waterproof boots at Timberland. Sterling also had some winter boots on sale during boxing week (buy one get one 40% off), but I didn't find any that I liked enough to buy. It's so hard to find boots that work well AND look good! I've been stuck with my mom's ugly silver snow boots this winter =( sucks when you wanna dress up a bit to go out when it's snowing.

Tretorn boots! They're extremely durable and great for Vancouver weather. Plus, some are fur-lined which is definitely a plus. You can get them at Plen+y for like $76 for the short ones.

Gum boots are also pretty decent as well. And cute.

Uggs are uggly (see what I did there?)

But srsly, they are dumb and look bad especially when girls are wearing them with sweat pants.

While I don't have a specific store that I can refer you to because, well, I am a guy, but I would recommend you to look for boots with good grip, water resistant, and low maintance.

I recall former member Baby E made a smiliar thread a while ago. Here is the link...

Ugg boots are not lame as long as you wear something that goes well with it. Like JayDub said, avoid the sweat pants. I personally think that tight jeans and tights in general goes quite well with Ugg boots.

Nothing looks good with Uggs. Period. Wearing Uggs visually decrease your height by 5%, with tight leg wears, 10%.

Since you ladies like to look fashionable, I recommend Yaktrax. So you wanna look stylish, take them off and put them in your bag, need traction, put them on.

    Available here.

It's also an extra edge should you get into a bitchfight.

Uggs are gross. And this is coming from a girl. Sure, they're warm and cozy but they are fucking ugly. They are for lazy people who can't think hard enough to put a proper outfit together with proper footwear. Ew.

However, the Ugg Cardys are pretty cute...

Still ugly. Fashion rule, female footwear above ankle height should only be worn when the wearer is taller than 5'9" and have proper proportionate leg to torso ratio, ie. long leg and short torso.

It's not stylish when you break this rule.

unless it doesn't snow or the weather doesn't get as cold as it is here.. i don't think boots will never be unfashionable.. although i must agree uggs are the exception..=.=" seriously.. they make girls look like they have swollen feet..

oops.. forgot to add.. yes don't get boots from aldo.. i checked them out and most of them are thinned soled and it is likely you'll slip and fall on your bum if you walk in snow.. =.=

Also, who really thinks that pink uggs are a good idea? This is the most horrendous thing I have ever seen.

Oooh these are cute! $76 is a hella good deal too... I'm wondering if they come in green... I've been trying to find good rainboots since the pair I got from Shoe Pavilion or whatever in the States broke. I guess you can't really cheap out on boots...

Everyone have different preferences, and I still think that certain girls would look cute in ugg boots. Still, I admit that ugg is only for one of those cold, dry winter days and wearing ugg in this ape-shi* of a weather may not be too practical.

Pink is definitely a nightmare to clean if it gets dirty.

Interesting perpective, I never notice that swollen feet thing. On the contrary, I found that ugg boots does give girls of small stature some "built".

Yeah, sorry, I guess I am fanning the flame with my pro-Ugg Boot stance.

Just wait and watch. Fashion styles are cyclical, as soon as Hollywood and fashion runaways no longer showcase boot, new style will replace boots.
  • edited January 2009
hm.. i honestly can't think of anything else that can replace boots during the wintery weather.. fashion or no fashion... i see boots as being a staple footwear..
  • edited January 2009
Mrbubbles, you can't replace boots because they are the ideal footwear for winter time.

Hollywood and fashion runaways DO NOT determine what is fashionable. For example, have you seen anyone wearing this on the street? Fashionable and designer clothing are nothing more than overpriced and impractical pile of cloths and people should shun them out of principle.

Also, corsets is rarely seen on magazine covers or movies that take place in modern day. But believe it or not, that there is a vibrant corset scene. Hell, to make this school related, my ARCH 252 TA wore a corset to class and office hour one day and I almost want to ask "how do you breath in that thing?"

That guy is wearing a beret and the only people I have seen in real life wear a beret is military peoples. And he is wearing it totally incorrectly... it looks like a bag of shit.

I've never seen so many men with opinions on womens fashion...most of the boyfriends I've had don't care as long as you look presentable.

Most guys I know if you ask them opinions on clothing items just say it looks good or they dunno and nothing else
  • edited January 2009
If you ask me anything else beside uggs I would give you the same answers as you posted above. However, uggs are just uggly and horrible and should not be worn by anyone.

WTF?! When did Black Panther uniforms become a fashion statement?

Vaka, perhaps it would be very helpful if you tell us what type of boots you are looking for and what are your budgets. Also, it would be an asset if you tell us where you live (ex: Richmond, Surrey, Burnaby) and we can point you to the specific stores for you.

Perhaps a pic or general description would be nice, but then again...

Says who? Short people aka moi can still pull off boots that go above the ankle. And I can hardly pull off ankle boots for my life. There are exceptions to this "rule". In fashion, many "rules" are broken which eventually develop into trends. Although I must agree that brown and black should not be worn together... and Uggs too.

Have you read any type of popular magazines, TV, major network medias?

"Latest trends" "What xxxx is wearing" "What's hot and what's not" "Must haves for this season"

    The response:

"She looks so hot in that, I gotta have it." "That's soooo nice." "Ooohhh, look at that, it's gorgeous." "That's on my want list."

This is the BS that is being pandered.

As for the link you provided, those 80s shades is the latest fad. Not everything on the runway gets into the mainstream, but majority of it does.

Fashion trends: get the high-income group to bite, when they bite and the trend becomes mainstream, everyone will flock to it like rabbits. Then the trend will discontinued simultaneously through propaganda and a new trend will be brought in via the same method.

As for the boot issue, think back before boots were in almost every women's closet and when Uggs was become an upcoming trend (IIRC appro. 4-5 winter seasons ago), what were they wearing?

Fashion taste varies from people. So called "rules" aren't really concrete, ingrained and is strictly IMO, nobody is out there to enforce this, it can only be criticized. So put on a flame suit when someone disagree with your fashion taste.

you know now that kinky brought this up.. the only fashion rule i've heard of is that short girls should stick with boots above the ankle (ideally above calf) as it gives the illusion of longer legs and a nicer silhouette.. anything below mid calf is a big no no...

and quite frankly.. any girl who's 5'9 can strut in just about any style of boots or footwear.. given a pair of nice long legs..
